According to his biography, Orouni is the name of a parasitic plant that lives in damp woods, dependent on a host tree for its nourishment. Quite what the artist behind the name is feeding on at the moment is open to question. A listen to his album, A Matter of Scale, triggers memories of early Velvet Underground brought back down to earth a bit: that drifting, almost dreamlike, narrative, this time influenced by pure nature rather than the manufactured products of it. I’m not sure you’ll be fooling anyone with this lipstick-shaped mini vibrator from LELO, but at least you’re going through the motions of being discreet. In any case, that flight from LGA to LAX is a long one, so the MIA will certainly come in handy.
Personally, I think it’s difficult for family photos to not be a bit stilted and weird, but Awkward Family Photos manages to post truly baffling images of badly dressed, strangely posed, and generally weird-looking clans as they wish to be remembered. Read more
In Japan, when one makes squeezing gestures with both hands at chest level, one is gesturing that one wants candy — soft, round, bouncy candy. At least, that’s what this commercial would have us believe.
This café, cookie shop, ice cream place in Cobble Hill Brooklyn is all about flavor, aroma and family. Their cookies and ice cream are absolutely to-die-for, and the place is so well-designed, painted in vintage colors with old family pictures printed on the walls, that you’ll want to indulge yourself for more than just a few minutes. Try their Whoopies and Lucia cookies. They’re my favourite.
We like this blog, Silent Cities. We like seeing images of some of the most noisy and crowded places in the world momentarily bathed in silence. There is something both serene and eerie about these scenes. The images above and below are from London, Sydney and Detroit. Read more
