There’s this incredibly corny Linkin Park music video where the parched ground reacts to every magical step that Mike Shinoda takes with plants that spring up in their place. This work is a bit like that, but more poetic. In a project commissioned by the China Environmental Protection Foundation to walk more and drive less, DDB China’s Jody Xiong came up with the idea of sprawling a 12.6m x 7m canvas of a leafless tree across a pedestrian crossing. Pedestrians who crossed the road from either side would leave their green footprints behind — they first had to walk over a flat sponge that was soaked in green paint — so the more people walked, the more they helped the world to be green.

The undulations of the roofs allow light, ventilation and access into the pavilions.
