Ok, Ensiferum is a cheesy band. They’re nominally folk metal, but somehow a lot of their melodies sound like the soundtrack to a western — think twangy guitars and whistling. Funny, because they’re Finnish. I think they sound like a metal version of Muse. I dug them at Pagan Fest last year. Their latest album, From Afar, isn’t a departure from what they’ve always done, but there are out-of-nowhere piano and banjo parts on the song Stone Cold Metal that are pretty great.

Eliot Lee Hazel is a photographer based in Los Angeles. I’d love to label him a fine art photographer, but even that seems limiting somehow. If Neil Krug and Ryan McGinley had a child, it would be Eliot Lee Hazel. Read more
Living Feral, aka Tracy Jager, does really wonderful collage work that makes you feel very nostalgic and acidic at the same time. This is one of my favorites called ‘you’d planned to move with a kind of largeness’.
In Japan, when one makes squeezing gestures with both hands at chest level, one is gesturing that one wants candy — soft, round, bouncy candy. At least, that’s what this commercial would have us believe.
The graduate exhibition of third year graphic design students at Sydney’s Design Centre is called 342 Seconds and relates to the estimated time required to view the show. The exhibition takes place on December 3 and looks to be well worth checking out, if these works by Jenny Lee [above] and Sean Batchelor [below] are anything to go by. I stumbled across the Hello, Blue Roses track, My Shadow Falls, the other week and it set my ears alight, this subtle but beautiful song and its cascading melodic line which will at once ingrain yourself in your inner-ear iPod and then disappear out the other end, leaving only the sweetest of memories. I’ve always been an avid follower of the Comfort Station brand in Cheshire St, London, so I decided to pop in on Sunday to have a look at their new collection. It’s unique and different, featuring railway tracks and my favourite barometer necklaces, where you can rate the way you, or someone you’ve just met, is feeling, with indications of stormy, fair and excellent.
