I seem to come down with a bad case of Tourettes every time I gas up my car. The alternative is a motorcycle, which is a little uncomfortable in inclement weather. This one person car seems like the perfect solution for solo trips year-round. It’s probably a real chick magnet, but where would you put them?

Is They Might Be Giants’ video for the song Electric Car the embodiment of tepid, jelly-spined, irritatingly cheesy, out-of-touch, mumblecore-loving liberalism, or is it wonderfully brilliant? I can’t quite tell.

Dal East is a diamond in the rough. When I first took notice of his work, I suspected a one-off piece of art, but digging deeper, an impressive pattern emerged. He has travelled widely and left his unique visual mark across numerous cities. His style is a unique one: loose sketches that are tightened into lit wireframes often echoing nature, giving the work a timeless almost mythological feel. Read more
History is the story of the winners, and western dominated culture recounts few triumphs from the east. Mongol is an effort to correct this balance, and the eastern influence is evident in much more than just the storyline. It is more like a fairy tale or legend handed down through generations, than based on fact, with mythical elements playing a major part, and the character’s motivations remaining simple. Read more
Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen’s design for the Copenhagen national library is a celebrated structure in the already glittering design portfolio of northern Europe. The marble and glass façade of The Black Diamond (yes, that is what their national library is called) is an example of architectural brilliance, with even the angled walls designed to best mirror the city’s beautiful canals.
Metal Heads Unite! And thanks to this map, it makes bridging the gap that much easier. Tread the lands of Death, Black, and every other kind of metal you can name.
It’s only fitting a band of Canadian rootsters like this would tap a mythical figure of folklore for their namesake. Indeed, Ottawa’s The John Henrys understand the power of the familiar. Read more

Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada. In 2008, graphic designer Becky Edgington and illustrator Sarah Beetson created two limited-edition packs of playing cards featuring images from Beetson’s exhibition, 50 Bucks: Bring On The Sluts. The images were selected from almost 500 small artworks created on moleskine paper, inspired by vintage pornography and a trip to Japan. Read more
