What to say about a portrait of Elvis on velvet made only with neon orange cheese puff crumbs and residue? This video from Eclectic Asylum is as intriguing as it is borderline revolting, though admittedly the end product is impressive. If that’s not enough, Eclectic Asylum has put out other videos where food is used to create odd portraits and paintings. Check out the Redneck Art made with barbecue ribs, or the vegemite on toast portrait. Despite the instinct to look away, it’s all very addictive.
South Korean-born artist Do-Ho Suh does a lot of large-scale installations and sculptures that remind me of Chinese Cynical Realist art. Read more
I’m not sure this is a sustainable idea, but it’s lovely all the same. Submit your favourite word or phrase to the artists at The Phraseology Project and they’ll transform them into a beautiful piece of typography for you to show off.

I’ve been living in Greenpoint Brooklyn for a couple of years now and one of the highlights is brunch on the weekends. After living in Crown Heights for seven years, where your only choices are Tom’s Diner or Popeye’s Fried Chicken, it’s an amazing change of pace. Brooklyn Label is a classic, old Brooklyn style restaurant with a great menu and when you’re a regular, you get seated before the masses. It’s definitely worth the trip to Greenpoint. But beware of the long waits at around 1pm when the hipsters wake up.
Mark Mothersbough, jack of all trades, most famous as frontman of iconic 80s band Devo, has recently started designing wallpaper and rugs, which are available from Walteria Living. Read more
Where would we be without synths and drum machines? Probably still listening to Grateful Dead jams in the alleyways of Height-Asbury. Done well, the remix is a wonderful thing. Case in point is Royksopp’s rendering of the Kings of Convenience track I Don’t Know What I Can Save You From. And then there’s Riton’s version of the Mystery Jets song, The Boy Who Ran Away. A White Lines for the 21st Century? I think so.

Ninety percent of the time, you can pick a Scandinavian brand from a metric mile away, which is not necessarily a bad thing considering that the Scands have such a refined, clean approach to thinking about clothes. Read more

Baltimore Mural by Josh Van Horne
My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
The Illuminated Sea Cookie Pin by Stephanie Simek mixes underwater wonders and light to add a little sparkle to your wardrobe. The sea cookie, a member of the sand dollar family, is back lit by a white LED. When turned on, the light illuminates all of the creature’s natural patterns and intricacies. Read more
