My friend Tony and his partner Mauricio are the guys behind DFCasa, a new type of home decoration studio from Mexico City. They are working with artisans from all over the country to marry traditional craft with the latest in cool design. The outcomes are fresh, fun and edgy. If you happen to be in Mexico City this week, you can see their work at the Zona Maco contemporary art fair. Read more
Ugandalebre, nee Sergio Hortelao of Portugal, hocks up some colorfully twisted images onto the page. Crazy, vomiting sheep, disemboweled, four-eyed cow creatures, and fire-spewing demons never looked so fun. Read more
Last Fall, I moved to a flat with a balcony and this Spring I really fell in love with ‘gardening‘. Things taste better and look better when you grow your own! 50 years from now, when we’ve ruined nature, sucked all nutrients from the soil, and the cities look like a Mad Max movie, we are bound to use our windows as replacements for gardens, fields and forests.
Artist David Shrigley’s animated music video for Blur is so simple, so sweet, so perfect. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, yet it still makes me cry every time.
My town is one of foghorns at five am, the smell of salty air and the sound of seagulls, Peets coffee, steep hills and die hard fans and loyalists. For those of us who have been here in San Francisco for some time now, we know all the secret gems of this small city — from Clarion Alley, to Army Street, from Irving to Broadway. Read more
I used to have a Livejournal. I remember when blogging was so much more earnest and emo back in the mid-Aughts. Embarrassing. Good to know there are people like out_4_pizza, who use their blogs to post amazing digital art rather than every detail of their personal lives. Read more
Why should the devil have all the good music? Finland’s Holy Blood is a great folk-black metal band by any standard, but its horn-raising tunes are all for the glory of the Good Lord rather than Satan or Odin. What would Jesus do? According to Holy Blood, he’d ride through the forests drinking mead and slaying non-believers.
My Baltimore friends might appreciate this t-shirt homage to Billy Ripkin, brother of Cal Ripkin Jr., whose 1989 Fleer card showed him holding a bat with the words ‘fuck face’ written on it.

Baltimore Mural by Josh Van Horne
My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
Michelle Blade’s psychedelic artwork
Michelle Blade’s washed out paintings are deceptively simple, her washy acrylics creating psychedelic textures and conjuring ghostly figures from the past. Read more
Here are a couple awesome pieces by Matt Leines that were recently on display in the Doubting Thomases exhibit at Nudashank gallery in Baltimore. Gives me ideas for Halloween. Read more
Cookie Boy’s creative cookie designs
I don’t eat cookies, so good thing Cookie Boy’s cookies are little pieces of art too pretty and cute to eat. Read more
Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada. On this Virgin Mary HaloTech watch, the dial is a modern version of the nineteenth century art form of lithophanes, carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D. The watch features a light-up dial, LED light, and afterglo effect. Read more
