While the green industry and most of the world were looking to Copenhagen for inspiration, New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg was in a helicopter, overlooking Denmark’s offshore windfarm, Horns Rev 2, the largest of its kind in the world to date. Bloomberg has his own offshore windfarm energy project already in motion, and with the Long Island wind project estimated to be operating at 700 megawatts, Horns Rev 2 (operating at 209 megawatts) will be easily replaced as the largest offshore windfarm.

There are two pitfalls to the Long Island project, however: It will easily cost $3 billion to create, and naysayers complain of the eyesore. Mayor Bloomberg, very much the pragmatist, offers the observation that Americans are already used to seeing power lines, gas stations, and energy plants, which could be argued as eyesores. Large wind turbines in the middle of the bay/ocean will most likely be acclimated before complaints could be seen as legitimate. So, the question remains, will the Long Island Project see completion, ushering a new age of green energy into one of the most energy-exhaustive cities on the eastern seaboard?

Oh No Ono is a quintet from Aalborg, Denmark. The band, which was formed in 2003, release their new record, Eggs, early next year on Leaf and Friendly Fire Recordings. So we checked in with them to find out about the music that inspired the recording. Guitarist and vocalist Nis Svoldgard started with the White Noise song, Love Without Sound [listen below]: ‘A bizarre pop song. It seems to have been created in a time vacuum in a place that’s never existed. I can’t even begin to think of how extremely hard and time-consuming it must have been making music like this in the 60s. The amazing thing is how delicate and sensitive this actually sounds’.

Each room in Copenhagen’s Hotel Fox is an individual piece of art. 21 international artists descended on the hotel to turn each of the 61 rooms into a unique space, featuring creative artwork ranging from Japanese manga to fluid graphic design. ‘French-born artist WK interact has lived in New York for the last fifteen years and has decorated whole tracts of the city’s SoHo district with his dynamic and energetic imagery’, such as the black and white artwork pictured above in the Hotel Fox room themed ‘Ecstacy’.
