If jeans were a drug, then Dr Denim’s would indubitably be my drug of choice. But better yet, our favourite Doc’s designs just keep getting cooler and, well … finer. I’m absolutely marvelled by their two latest fits: the Osmond (skinny fit) and Raymond (regular fit). While the Osmond features a bleached down wash in tight fits, the Raymond offers a second-hand look in grey scale denim. Suave, are they not?

Fashion really is a process of metamorphosis. First there were skinny jeans. Then super-skinny. Then leggings. Then ‘Meggings’ (leggings for men). Now we’re about to go one step further, if Artsu have anything to do with it. Male models strutted the catwalk at Australian Fashion Week in a kind of hybrid-jodhpur: skintight to the knee then flared above with a baggy crotch. Teamed with military-influenced jackets and tees, it’s going to be a long black summer according to Artsu. The collection continued the gothic romantic trends of winter into the warmer months ahead (good news for us Aussies, as we can recycle our current winter wears!) With a darkly Victoriana influence and a nod to equestrian styling we reckon the look will be galloping out of the stores in no time.

Once upon a time there was a real connoisseur of jeans, Hidehiko Yamane, as expert and demanding as only certain Japanese ‘otaku’ can be. He passionately searched for the best products to import from anywhere in the world. He soon realized that quality denim, the original, was impossible to find on the market. Then, during one of his trips looking for vintage pieces, he came across a 1950s American loom capable of weaving forty metres of a ‘selvedge’ denim a day. Yamane had an idea: why not make exceptional jeans for connoisseurs like himself? So the Evisu adventure began. In 1988 Yamane — who calls himself a tailor, not a designer of jeans – created a cult product. Today the little Osaka trademark has become famous all over the world, with 400 shops besides more than 50 in Japan. Evisu continues to expand with its newest additions including ‘Evisu Shoos’, ‘Evisu European Edition’ and ‘Kizzu’.

Rick Owen’s spring collection uses monochrome patterns to create a classic and chic silhouette. The layering, and oversized look, is perfectly tailored: big around the neck and tighter in the leg. His freshly newly launched line of denim — DRKSHDW — has been described as dark grunge and edgy Goth. It comes in a selection of unique washes, making them look more ‘used’.
