If jeans were a drug, then Dr Denim’s would indubitably be my drug of choice. But better yet, our favourite Doc’s designs just keep getting cooler and, well … finer. I’m absolutely marvelled by their two latest fits: the Osmond (skinny fit) and Raymond (regular fit). While the Osmond features a bleached down wash in tight fits, the Raymond offers a second-hand look in grey scale denim. Suave, are they not?

Fashion really is a process of metamorphosis. First there were skinny jeans. Then super-skinny. Then leggings. Then ‘Meggings’ (leggings for men). Now we’re about to go one step further, if Artsu have anything to do with it. Male models strutted the catwalk at Australian Fashion Week in a kind of hybrid-jodhpur: skintight to the knee then flared above with a baggy crotch. Teamed with military-influenced jackets and tees, it’s going to be a long black summer according to Artsu. The collection continued the gothic romantic trends of winter into the warmer months ahead (good news for us Aussies, as we can recycle our current winter wears!) With a darkly Victoriana influence and a nod to equestrian styling we reckon the look will be galloping out of the stores in no time.

Monet and The Impressionists is on display at Sydney’s Art Gallery of New South Wales until January 26, 2009. Alive with bold brushstrokes and dappled colours, the exhibit features 58 masterpieces by Cezanne, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Pissarro and Monet himself, among many others that have never been shown in Australia. It was amazing to view some of the finest quality works that revolutionised modern painting and the way natural light is portrayed on canvas. Go Monetise yourself and see Rough Weather, and all those serial haystack paintings.
Knuckleheads is a pretty fun little side scrolling game where you’re a pair of Mexican-wrestler-looking things attached to each other by a chain. You swing each other around to move and hit floaty capsule things for points, and you can change the length of the chain to get over various obstacles, but watch out for the bats.
Several years after they disbanded, one of indie rock’s brightest sparks — Ambulance Ltd — are back. Read more
My boyfriend is your typical guy who likes wearing nice clothes, but has no patience for shopping. So when a recent shopping trip in Byron Bay went into its second hour, I knew I was heading into dangerous territory. I knew I only had about two more minutes before he’d reach his man-shopping threshold, so you can imagine my surprise when from across the store he called out: ‘babe, do you like these shorts?’ And sure enough there he was, elbow deep in a stack of brightly printed boardies by Aussie label, Toggs. My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada.
