New York-based, Australian art director Deanne Cheuk — an occasional contributor to Lost At E Minor — is one of the most adventurous and creative designers around. Her work on Tokion magazine, in particular, for which she shaped the visual direction over several years, was inspiring, pushing the boundaries by incorporating illustration, offbeat color touches and avoiding the straight portrait shots which seem to dominate the front window of every inner-city newsagency.
How neat is new Palace porcelain tableware collection by Seletti? The set is designed by Selab and Allessandro Zambelli and resembles a Renaissance-era French Palace when stacked together.
Luminous and dreamlike, illustrator Jeremy Enecio’s often erotic and mythic images mix comic book exaggeration with classical reverence for the human form. Read more
Peter Nalitch is Russia’s answer to Manu Chao. His video for the song Guitar is a Borat-like jab at low-budget, post-Soviet awkwardness — absurd English lyrics, Eurotrash earnestness, bad wipes, and cheap subtitles. But its tongue-in-cheekness is quite apparent, and the song is disarmingly catchy and romantic.
Fresh fruit? Yes please! Never mind that I had just finished a cottage pie as big as my face. I was going to have a punnet of those raspberries. I couldn’t help myself. Really. They were just sitting so pretty alongside the luscious apples and pears lining the rickety stalls of London’s Soho Fruit Markets, I just couldn’t restrain myself. TIME magazine’s annual Person of the Year issue is coming out this week. I illustrated one of the runner-ups, but of course, I have to keep my mouth completely shut. I don’t know who is the winner though. On TIME’s website, you can see all the past covers of this most talked about issue of each year. It’s a good time to look back history and learn from it anyway, don’t you think?
There are two kinds of metalheads: those that are drawn by the hyper masculine, angry, aggressive aspect of metal, and those that are drawn by its Wagnerian drama, themes of pagan nature worship, and disdain towards modern civilization. The line between the latter and hippies is quite thin. I am one of these sorts of metal fans, which is why I also really love bands like The Lickets, an empyrean, luminously beautiful, experimental folk collective. They make music that makes you feel like a tiny speck floating in the vast oceans of existence, perfect for a night of star gazing, just like Burzum’s fourth album, Filosifem.
New York-based illustrator and sometime Lost At E Minor contributor, Fernanda Cohen, has just finished a line of four tees for The Gap as part of the (RED) campaign. The t shirts will be coming out this fall. Read more
