Likely lad Dave Gorman is never short of a wacky idea. From seeking out 54 other namesakes to traipsing around the globe guided by a unique internet search, Gorman gives a good anecdote. His latest project — America Unchained — is no less peculiar. But this time he may have hit the sweet spot. His attempt to go coast to coast in the U.S. without giving money to the Man has been captured on film and has already won the audience award for best Documentary at the Austin Film Festival. The DVD is out in the UK, with the book to follow internationally in April. [watch also the Construction of the American Dream]
We asked New York-based photographer Gregg Delman about the differences between shooting for print and online: ‘With online publications, the layouts are very specific. You need to shoot and crop to fit a specific box on the web page. With print, you have a bit more freedom. Editors are willing to layout there text around your images as long as its within reason. Also, there is a lot less time given for online shoots. All the MTV.com shoots have been done in a 9 x 10 foot office space with fifteen minutes max’. I love the colour and textures that permeate Brooklyn illustrator Ilana Kohn’s work. A Pratt graduate, Kohn ‘works mainly through combining traditional painting techniques with various manners of collage and occasional digital media’. Read more

Located on a mountain in country outside Mudgee, in New South Wales, Australia, a permanent camp designed by Casey Brown has been set. A timber structure clad in copper has been designed to have a closed state and an open state. From the closed position, the flanks of copper are hoisted and capture views across the valley. With an imagery of structures, materials and mechanics of old, there is something romantic about this foothold on the hill.
Square America is a photo blog that’s sort of like Found magazine, but with more rhyme and reason. The eerie, antique photos are organized by theme, subject matter, and even the ways in which time or lens imperfections distort the images. Read more
