Daniel Davidson’s Mirror Drawings are constructed using watercolor pencil. He draws one side of the image in its entirety, then sprays the paper with water, folds it in half and buffs it vigorously. The paper is sprayed and buffed repeatedly until the drawn half is successfully printed on the opposing side, creating a completely symmetrical image. Read more
Focusing on the meeting point between ancient rituals and digitized mediation, Michael Swaney creates collages, drawings, assemblages, and installations that have an outsider-y folk art quality about them while expressing sophisticated, sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic statements about the modern human condition. San Fransisco-based artist Alexis MacKenzie must be patient. She has to be in order to create beautiful collages from the vintage books that she collects. There’s an amazing amount of detail in each piece. Elements are painstakingly transplanted from book to paper with scissors and glue. No Photoshop cut n’ pastes here.
Oh, ok, so now I’ve seen it all. Or perhaps, in this case, I’m not seeing enough. Japanese game shows are so much fun. Seriously.

The latest band to make LA proud is tropical-nu wave act Abe Vigoda. These guys are so new and so exciting that even your grandparents don’t know who they are. Yet! They describe themselves as tropical punk, but I like to think of them as nihilistic rockers — no form, no shape, just chaos. If LA’s new breed of punk popstars such as Health, Meiko Meiko and Pocohauntas make you tremble, then this band are sure to get you very worked up.
