Painter Dan Sibley appropriates the Aboriginal technique of dot painting for his contemporary creations of idyllic luxury hotels and homes on fire, particularly resonant considering recent events in Victoria. The use of dots gives his work a computer generated bent, while the bright colors are reminiscent of the pop culture art of the 60s and 70s, and the absence of people in his idyllic images lends them an eerie, almost artificial feel.
A psychedelic ooze of colors swallows up the human world in Jacob Magraw’s incredible artwork, digesting everything into elemental, prismatic swirls, splatters, and new organic structures. Read more
Cotswold-based photographer Kai Murphy photographs people and landscapes, using dilapidated equipment to convey a narrative within his images. I have been especially inspired by his picture The Bison, a photograph taken in India on a film that had been recovered from a sunken boat.
I’m really excited about the Melbourne band Plug-in City. They remind me of Belle & Sebastian, The Kooks and Cut Copy all in one. What more can us New Yorkers ask for?
