Yes, she has incorporated scent into some of her pieces, meaning not only can you wear delicious looking vanilla frosted cupcake earrings, but they are also scented with vanilla. With Christmas in the not too distant future, these could make a unique gift idea. Read more

Butch cupcakes aren’t the pink, fluffy kind your grandma bakes. They’re a masculine-made alternative for men who just want to eat sweet treats without the sissy nametag. Instead, Butch Cupcakes feature cameo, plaid, wood grain, hound’s-tooth, checkerboard or marble chocolate disks on their icing tops to avoid sprinkled embarrassment from the past. Read more

These Cupcake Cranium Moulds by Fred are so neat. They allow you to get all brain eating, Hannibal Lector-style, without actually devouring a fleshy human brain. Each printed giftbox is packed with four silicon skull moulds ready to fill with your favourite grey batter for baking. I know games such as Grand Theft Auto and the likes have been banned for making children aggressive, but somehow I don’t see parent child activists getting these appealing treats banned.

Cupcake aficionados can now express their fetish for baked goods to neighbours with these giant cupcake polyethylene cases by Dutch designer Beerd van Stokkum. The extraordinarily proportioned ‘Sweet Cake’ case serves a multitude of purposes, ranging from a pet basket, flower pot and baby bath, to a generic place for storage. They’re made out of a thick synthetic material that’s conveniently available in every colour of the rainbow.

What better way to kick-start your weekend than with a basket of drool-inducing baked goods delivered right to your front door? All of you Londoners out there should count yourselves lucky, because Le Dolci — purveyors of ‘deliciously addictive’ cupcakes, tarts, pies, and Sicilian treats — has started a cake club service that makes its deliveries every Friday all over the city. Warm fuzzy feelings for the creators of Bake Sale Online. While I spend the next two weeks in Los Angeles, I’m tempted to send these delectable delights to all fellow cookie monster girlfriends. Maybe even sign it from a secret admirer. And just like that, I’m segwayed back to grade school, pulling little pranks at the annual bake sale.

Move over, Martha. Forget the rainbow sprinkles and pink frosting — it’s time for some cupcakes with cajones. So thought David Arrick, a former Wall Street securities lawyer, when he launched Butch Bakery, a New York outfit that specializes in ‘manly cupcakes for manly men’. You won’t find any strawberries and cream here. Arrick’s ‘mouth-wateringly awesome’ flavors include goodies like The Jackhammer, the B-52, and the Beer Run (beer-infused buttercream, anyone?) ‘We’re all a little mad here’, say the owners of Hollywood’s Laurel Avenue Bakery (aka Bakelab), an outfit that makes handcrafted goodies inspired by that fantastical childhood classic, Alice in Wonderland. The bake shop’s Tea Party Curio Box is packed with a delectable array of trippy treats: ‘curiously sweet’ blue meringue mushrooms, Cheshire Cat Macarons, ‘Taste Me’ cookies, and even a couple of unbirthday cupcakes — candles included. Yum, yum, cupcakes are fun. These creations are so clever, so arty, so damn bizarre that it would almost be a shame to eat them. Almost! Read more
Spanish artist Lorenzo Duran makes beautiful art on leaves. I have seen a lot of stencils and cut-out art on paper, but Duran’s works on leaves are on a whole different level. Read more
I owe my fascination with Susan Hiller to my girlfriend. We went to see the current retrospective of her work at the Tate Britain and PSI GIRLS blew my mind. It’s an incredible example of an artist’s awareness of their audience’s role within their own art. I don’t think this aesthetic is applied to music often enough. She perfectly subverts ‘pop culture’ by using video art as the medium.
In my next life, I want to sing like Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison. Oh, and grow a lush beard, so I can play in their band. Better start cracking.
I almost had a heart attack the first time I entered Published Art. And I’m not even an architecture and design nut. This place is the shiz. As the name of the store suggests, Published Art is art published in book form. Their spectacular array of art, design and architecture books will bring a tear to the eye of any admirer of beauty. For Published Art, less is more. They make sure that they only keep the latest titles in stock so that every single one of their gorgeous hardcover books can be viewed from any part of the store. MIIIIIIKKKKKKKKEEE SNNNNNNOOOOWWW. Well, actually, Miike Snow. While everyone is obsessed with his track Animal, I’m loving his track Black and Blue from his new self-titled album.

I’m not much of a jewelry guy, but if bling is in order, it’s ordered from my man Osa at Complete Technique. Originally from Japan, Osa is now based in Dumbo, Brooklyn and makes the finest metal jewelry, on par with any of his ancestor’s samurai swords. From speaker rings to turntable pendants, it’s all fresh and mostly music or hip-hop related. He’s been at it for about ten years and works harder than most people I know. If you need some jewelry, show him some love.

Baltimore Mural by Josh Van Horne
My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.

Pencils made from recycled newspaper
The problem with awesome things like these pencils made out of recycled newspaper is that you almost don’t want to use them.
Inside this sea urchin shell is an organic perfume made from grapefruit and basil essential oils. This bottle, designed by Stephanie Simek, is refillable and is packaged in a wooden box decorated with a satin photograph and padded with slices of exfoliating loofah sea sponges. The Honeymoon-themed fragrance is all natural: made from plant-based oils and contains no alcohol or chemicals. We like. Read more
