We checked in with Crystal Antlers’ vocalist and bassist Jonny Bell and asked him to tell us about their album artwork, which is always amazing: ‘I played with the art for the 7″s and the DIY version of the EP. The images mostly came from old children’s books. When Touch and Go re-issued our EP, we needed original artwork so we asked our friends at an art collective in Philadelphia, and they referred us to Jefferson Mayday Mayday. He had a collage called Destiny that we really liked and ended up using for the cover of the re-issued EP. For the new record, we decided the give our friend Janet Beeler an open brief for the artwork. We sent her the record as soon as we finished it and a few days later she sent us the completed artwork. I found this beeeaaauuutiful Taylor guitar on consignment at a local mom n’ pop guitar store. As soon as I played it, I knew it was the one. It has a really warm sound, especially as Taylors go: great built-in electronics, easy action, and it’s just so purty.

Artist David Shrigley’s animated music video for Blur is so simple, so sweet, so perfect. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, yet it still makes me cry every time.

The young architect Junya Ishigami is pushing the boundaries of the weightless aesthetic stream of architecture. Here, for the Kanagawa Institute of Technology, he has designed a glass and steel pavilion with a roof that floats on a sparse forest of thin steel columns or ‘flats’. Read more

The return of the Brionvega rr226

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.

Set up in 2011, Rebel Unlit is a printing collaboration between London based Artists Neil Butler and Shanney Mulcahy. They make short run screen-printed t-shirts and limited edition prints from their studio in East London. All the t shirts are fair traded and printed by hand and, as a result, each one is unique.
