I love the toys that come out of Max Toy Co. I’m a big fan of Tokusatsu and Super Sentai programs, and these toys have come out of a huge love for these things. They’re made in the same way a lot of Japanese soft vinyl toys are made, but some of the ideas Mark Nagata comes up with exaggerate the craziness of the genre even more, and I can’t get enough of them. His Kaiju Negora Konatsu toy is a prime example of that.

If you like toys, you’ll love the work of Hiroshi Yoshii, one of the most acclaimed digital artists in Japan. Alongside his 3D animation work, he makes amazing toys. They either put a huge smile on my face or crack me up. They are cute, wacky and clever. I love them. Read more

Lost At E Minor contributor, and renowned street artist Shepard Fairey, has launched his first new limited edition vinyl figure in eleven years — Mr Spray — based on one of his 2004 street art creations which, in turn, was a spoof on the ‘advertising character design of the 1950s’.

The Tarman Zombie from the 80s classic slapstick horror movie Return of the Living Dead has risen again … as a toy! It doesn’t officially come out until March or April of next year, but you know this is going to sell like crazy. In the meantime, watch the movie if you haven’t. It’s fun as hell.

Abounding with references to the natural world and its corresponding rhythms, Australian artist Eleanor Yap creates the most incredible tapestry-like drawings. Yap’s rorschach-styled images, through their soothing symmetry and allegiances to nature, really seem to put the mind at ease somehow, despite their intense density and lively colors. I must say I was truly disappointed in discovering that her online shop is at this time closed! Sigh.

‘I have been trying to go with my whims. Fuck it, let’s make an iPod album’. This statement from Team Genius leader Drew Hermiller was the jumping off point in the creation of the band’s debut self-titled full-length album, one of the most interesting and eclectic pop records of the year. ‘Basically it’s a reaction to the modern way music is consumed and listened to’, Hermiller says. ‘The idea of an album with a focused sound and a complete statement kind of gets lost now-a-days. Everyone shuffles around, so I thought “why not write an album that does the same thing?” Luckily, the band did an awesome job of keeping up with it’. Now this is fun. This 3D watch dial actually jumps to life. The dial is a modern version of the 19th century art form of lithophanes: carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D, with an LED light and afterglow effect. Read more
