Anyone who knows me knows I am partial to a nice sip of vodka. But in the day time, it’s a different matter, well before midday anyway. Then it’s all about the mighty cuppa. And We Are Tea share the same passion. Operating from opposite St. Pauls cathedral, not only do they have a cool tea shop, but they make their own award-winning blends. Trust me, these guys are turning the art of tea into alchemy.

Mmm! Tastea is a tea lover’s paradise. I discovered the herbal slushy, smoothie bar while visiting Orange County and was surprised to learn that there are only two stores in California so far. Each tea beverage combines the best flavours of the East and West, resulting in an Asian-American treat. My favourite is the lychee-based Lychee Peachee drink with a green jelly add-on.

As tea geek, I could go on and on about the purity of the flavor found in Ineeka teas, and describe nuances in a vocabulary usually reserved for wine cellars. However, I am just going to tell you that it is good. Real good! Ineeka is the only tea company in North America that grows its own tea and they use a bio-dynamic growing system to do so (think fair trade and organic growing, but super sized). Read more

Our friends over at Paper Tiger have just released their first print of the new year, and we’re lovin’ it. It’s called a Touch of Class and is the work of artist, Nathan Ota, who had a recent solo show at Hollywood’s La Luz de Jesus gallery. Ota, whose earliest influences were Frank Frazetta calendars and Vampirella comics, primarily creates his work using acrylics and wood panel.
No I don’t dance. But heck I was tempted the other night. I was at a Foo Fighters gig, deep amongst the sweat-ridden bowels of a 20,000 strong crowd, with a mind-blowing laser show flashing above me and a band on stage so in the zone it was mesmerising. Read more

Melbournes laneways are cluttered with themed, designer bars. The challenge seems to be which is the most hip, funky and individual bar. Step in Section 8, an old inner city carpark furbished with warehouse pallets, patio heaters and a couple of freight containers, converted to serve you drinks. The vibe is fittingly low-key, with background music played at a reasonable level, frequently changing decor, and a variety of options to quench your thirst. It’s casual, fun and simple. FFFFOUND! is a fun website that allows you to bookmark your favorite images from the Internet and share them with fellow users, sort of like a del.icio.us specifically for pictures. The site is still in private beta and not currently supported on Mac, but as its collection of images expands, it’s likely to become much more widely available.
Cloud Control have just unravelled a newly recorded track, Gold Canary, from their forthcoming 2010 album. It’s straight up pastoral Blue Mountains goodness. I actually heard it live earlier this year and it sounded quite rad.

They may be incredibly eccentric, but these ten inch platforms are physical proof that it is actually possible to create somewhat aesthetically pleasing heels out of elephant faeces. UK-based artist INSA designed the shoes as part of a recent art exhibit at Tate Britain which features the individual work of various artists responding to Chris Ofili’s controversial The Holy Mary elephant dung painting made fifteen years ago.

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
