Since starting my website, This Island Life, I’ve been guilty of a few things. But we’re not here to talk about my need to purchase everything I write about. We’re here because I’ve been neglecting the fashionable men in my life. What can I say? I was blinded by bikinis and balayage – things that (bless your hearts) you guys read and even commented on. But I’m not here to make excuses; I’m here to apologise. And what better way than with a pair of summer huaraches from my current favourite shoe designer Jeffrey Campbell.

These Mexican sandals are made from woven leather and are pretty much the only man shoe I’ve ever found myself getting excited about. I love everything about these – the colour, the weave and the fact that they’d look amazing with your jeans rolled up just above your ankles.

If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to not think about this purchase for too long. The Jeffrey Campbell men’s collection is extremely hard to find and sells out quickly. Get them on Solestruck or head down to Tuchuzy if you’re around Bondi and you might get lucky. They got them back in stock last week.

Yesterday I didn’t even know these shoes existed. Today, they’re all I can think about. Perforated suede, luxe animal prints, a chunky four-inch wedge and a summery peep toe front: it’s like Jeffrey Campbell invaded my shoe dreams and brought them to life. Had I not made a rookie error, I would have saved myself a chunk of cash and a hell of a lot of time.

My Mary Roks were safely in a shoebox, swinging in a bag that was attached firmly to my clingy hand. So what’s the moral of the story? When you’re dealing with cult fashion items, you can’t afford to get distracted. Literally.

Everything about this shoe is cool, especially that it has been designed by Dutch uber-architect, Rem D Koolhaas, for United Nude. The Lo Res Black Out shoe was created using innovative design software, which creates low level 3D resolutions of an existing product to fragment their shape into something structural. Et voila! A shoe star is born. And from the famed Clark’s shoe family, no less.
