Playful, sculptural, and abstract, there is no turning back once you look at these couture shoes by Marloes ten Bhömer, I never knew the range of expression my feet had. I need to talk my shoes out of their inferiority complex.

Christian Louboutin has created a crazy eight-inch heel shoe in the name of charity. As part of the English National Ballet’s The Summer Party auction, the designer created these insane Swan Lake style heels. Even though anyone who isn’t a trained Ballerina would snap their ankle in a second of putting them on, the sparkle and craftsmanship still makes me want to try.

This is a really strong shoe, and lasts a long, long time. My dad says that you should replace your shoes every eight months, but I haven’t replaced these in a year and a half. I like running at night. It’s the only time New York City feels empty. There’s only Chinese men fishing in the East River and a few couples making out.

November 27, 2010 | New Fashion | by This Island Life |

Since starting my website, This Island Life, I’ve been guilty of a few things. But we’re not here to talk about my need to purchase everything I write about. We’re here because I’ve been neglecting the fashionable men in my life. What can I say? I was blinded by bikinis and balayage – things that (bless your hearts) you guys read and even commented on. But I’m not here to make excuses; I’m here to apologise. And what better way than with a pair of summer huaraches from my current favourite shoe designer Jeffrey Campbell. Read more

Yesterday I didn’t even know these shoes existed. Today, they’re all I can think about. Perforated suede, luxe animal prints, a chunky four-inch wedge and a summery peep toe front: it’s like Jeffrey Campbell invaded my shoe dreams and brought them to life. Had I not made a rookie error, I would have saved myself a chunk of cash and a hell of a lot of time. Read more

Everything about this shoe is cool, especially that it has been designed by Dutch uber-architect, Rem D Koolhaas, for United Nude. The Lo Res Black Out shoe was created using innovative design software, which creates low level 3D resolutions of an existing product to fragment their shape into something structural. Et voila! A shoe star is born. And from the famed Clark’s shoe family, no less.

Shoes, art, shoes, art. Which will win in the ever-stimulating battle of wills in Kobi Levi’s creations. Though, as a Brooklyn resident, this one with gum as the heal is a just little too close to the truth. Read more

Don’t mistake this little buck for just another design accent. Made out of resin, this game comes with 30 other antlers that can be stacked on top of each other. Try to add as many antlers as you can without making them tip over and tumble down. Sold by Huset.

Phillip Low combines acrylic and lucite to make fantastic gem-like sculptures, which are possibly just as pretty in photographs as they are in three dimensions.

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project involved fourteen countries around the world filling crates with the best of their local nightlife and exchanging their country’s crate with another. We were there all the way, following Australia’s involvement. And the final stage, with Brazil and Australia swapping crates, was a beauty! As this video attests.

Let them sing it for you is a web widget that allows you to type in a sentence which is then played back using the same words culled from a library of popular songs. For instance if you type the word “I” it will play Chris Isaak singing that word in the song Wicked Games. If a word cannot be found, you can enter a song which contains the missing word and expand the library.

Monarch are an incredibly grim, lumbering doom metal band from Basque country in France. Frontwoman Emilie Bresson is one of those rare female singers in metal that’s at once fierce and raspy, yet identifiably female, creating a haunting, menacing sound that can stand up against the most ragingly macho bands out there.

Threads or Dead is a new Australian-based online clothing store, based in Perth, and selling streetwear and contemporary fashion for both guys and girls. Says site founder Justin Greenwood: ‘As well as stocking some of the more well known brands, we also import a lot of labels exclusively from America, and produce a small range of our own clothing. We want to sell clothing that is unique and often has a story behind it. We don’t want to sell clothing that is available in your average High Street store’. Read more
