I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the crystal craze. Crystals, like triangles, are ubiquitous these days as visual shorthand for something vaguely mystical. I love these Scilia rings from Five and Two because, rather than evoking the nurturing qualities of Mother Earth, they seem to have tumbled out of an acid nightmare future where everything is synthetic. I’m so fortunate to be the proud aunt of a niece and two nephews, not just because they’re adorable, but so I can get away with wearing crayon rings. My inner-child wants the whole collection designed by Timothy Liles so I can create a masterpiece whenever I see paper. Available in a packaged set of four (red, blue, yellow and black). Read more

Now you can have your, errrr, waffle and eat it too. Sort of. This adorably yummy waffle ring from Hipster Chic comes with all the fixin’s on a silver plate ring.

We got our hands on a Kinekt Gear Ring the other day and haven’t stopped playing with it since. In a good way, of course. The Gear Ring, which is made from high quality matte stainless steel, features six micro-precision gears that turn in unison when the outer rims are spun. It’s a blast. And it looks great on the hand, too. As my wife will now attest. Read more

I’ve always had this urge to experience the great American outdoors, that picturesque world that I’ve seen in countless John Candy reruns. Yes, I’d stay in a rustic log cabin, surrounded by chipmunks and coyotes and sing John Denver songs by the fireplace. Hmmm. Maybe I’ll make it happen one day. Maybe? Nah. [painting by Mark Ryden]
Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.

It’s official, I’m back into jewellery after detoxing from the 2001 chandelier earring craze.
