A nice little mash-up between the lovely Lykke Li and the ever-talented Bon Iver. The original is deeply intimate, whereas this rendition takes the song to the great outdoors and injects vibrant percussion, accompanied by the funky moves of Sweden’s finest export since Bjorn Borg’s mullet.

Where would I be without the mighty Dan? This is a band that I listen to almost daily. Every time I do, I hear something new. Sure, they’re clever East Coast jazz-rockers, with a laid back West Coast sound. But read that again: they’re clever! What’s not to love about that? Maybe being English and growing up in the 80s had an influence on me — the US seemed to dominate my cultural reference points. One week I wanted to be in ‘Ponch’ from CHiPs, and the next week I’d be trying to urge my mum to buy me a Miami Dolphins shirt. Steely Dan music seems to represent everything I love about America — it’s funky, clever, inventive, collaborative, confident and sexy.

The always fiery Les Savy Fav turn it on — again — in one of our all-time favourite music videos. Talking puppets! Neon colours. Genius.

Coming across like a mesh of Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth, Athens, Georgia, indie-rock band Twin Tigers are a earful in their own right. Their new video for the single, Red Fox Run, was directed by Robert U. Thomason.

Cate Le Bon’s music video for Hollow Trees House Hounds has humans laying eggs, nightmarish animated creatures, and cardboard artillery. That’s just the beginning.

Lake Lustre’s beguiling track Shoplifter takes me through a journey of many earths. I feel enchanted. With eyes closed, I begin to twirl, surrounded by cherry blossoms. Then, when the voice enters the song, I am catapulted back in my room, sweetly content to just lie and listen. This is very clearly a keyhole into someone’s most intimate thoughts and delights.

Chantal Claret from the New York-band Morningwood taught herself how to do claymation and she made a video for their song Snobby Little Elf. It’s pretty amazing.

I originally caught wind of these photos on amazing artist/designer Scott Hansen’s blog. These photos, taken by Danny Lyon in Brooklyn in 1974, have such a gritty, yet nostalgic feel to them. As a native New Yorker, any New York history pieces leave me curious. Great finds. [Musician Outasight is writing guest posts for Lost at E Minor] Read more

I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
