The video for Entertainment, the first single from Phoenix’s album Bankrupt!, is a dozen Asian soap operas mashed together to create the most epic visual experience possible. I love all the colours and confusing drama. Even though the song lyrics are in English, Phoenix masterfully creates the feeling of confusion typically experienced while watching a foreign film.

British Sea Power’s new music video for their song Machinery Of Joy is everything I want right now as spring fever begins to hit where I live. The relaxing shots of a sweater-wearing, dark haired girl riding through the country side makes me want to stop being productive and go for a long bike ride. Unfortunately, I think my bike tires are a little to flat at the moment. Perhaps I’ll find a bike pump later today and take off as well.

This is a handmade stop-motion video with over 600 photos by Amsterdam-based artist Elza Jo for the debut single, Sad Feel, by Eiko, a Japanese singer songwriter. The volume of images in the video hits like an automatic machine gun. Magical.

Emperor Yes just released their debut single Wasps and the music video is fantastic. It’s mash of 80s and 90s horror flicks, nerd chic, and Japanese foreign film. The playful synth soundtrack may be a bit too happy for a gory wasp attack, but it creates a nice contrast. Somehow the band’s writhing and flinching becomes a dance with their synth pop melodies backing them up.

Situs invertus is a condition when someone’s internal organs are inverted. But at least you can’t see this strange condition on the outside. This new video for recent Mercury Prize winners Alt-J (symbol for delta on a Mac) imagines limbs and body parts in reverse, and the result is like a car wreck that I can’t stop gawking at. It helps that the song, and full album titled An Awesome Wave by Alt-J, is truly memorable.

This is the first clip from Madrid, the new project of Adriano Cintra of Fame and Marina Vello of Bonde de Role. I have been looking forward to it since one of their earlier collaborations on a cover version of Freak le Boom Boom by Gretchen kept ringing in my ears for a long time. The video was shot by Dacio Pinheiro in São Paulo last month and I like the dark atmosphere and aesthetics of classical black and white cinema.

The Pinata’s doom is a cruel metaphor for determinism. It’s pretty much a Christ-figure for the cruelty of children; a sacrifice consecrated to violence and gluttony by millions of nine-year-olds at birthdays across the planet. Florida four-piece Hundred Waters’s video for the single Thistle celebrates the liberation of the beast and its subsequent existential meandering. Directed by Barcelona-based Martin Allais, Thistle employs stop-motion animation and brittle card to create a tactile video that explores freedom and pain.

This video for the latest track, Sunsick, from BK-based band Fort Lean off their soon to be released EP, Change Your Name, will definitely make you feel those familiar twinges of nostalgia for Summer and possibly a few guilt pangs for all the partying you did. Directed by Ethan Berger, this video combines the weird and beautiful within the ordinary as it follows the bleached locks of lead singer Keenan Mitchell from the streets of Williamsburg to the beach. Change Your Name, produced by Chairlift’s Patrick Wimberly comes out on October 30.

As reported by NPR, these three high school musicians won the annual Iceland Music Experiments last year in Reykjavik, and produced Hljóma Þú EP with 20 free hours of studio time. With obvious Icelandic comparisons to Bjork and Mum, I love how these guys bring the clarinet to the forefront of Scandinavian electronic music. The album can be purchased here, which also has a nice range of independent music. Be sure to listen to the second track, Viltu vitrast.

The music video for the first single of indie band Two Door Cinema Club’s album Beacon, Sleep Alone, has just squirreled online ahead of the album’s September 3 release. In it, the frontman gets confronted by a hoodie that comes to life, then by a walking seat cushion straight out of Disney; gets assaulted by a blanket, then does some modern day Aladdin-ing surfing on a bed as he crashes out of his high-rise apartment, pursued by a train and then a guitar. Oh, and there’re also a couple of alien invasion scenes. Looks quite fun. Can we be in the band?

I’m always drawn to music that manages to make heavy use of sustained chords and unresolved melodies without sounding, well, unsatisfying. It’s not an easy thing to accomplish, but Mount Eerie appears to have a gift for it. The songs tend to be slower and more depressing than stuff I gravitate to, but the feeling is undeniably visceral.

The Residents are one of my favourite bands. I first heard them in 1977 on the late, great John Peel’s BBC radio show in England. I love the darkness of this video. I know it’s odd but, sonderbar ist gut, ja? Possibly the best video ever made.
