Maria Papadimitriou has taken upcycling to another level with her jewellery label, Plastic Seconds. The London-based designer creates ‘recycled adornments’ out of seemingly useless bits of plastic. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the crystal craze. Crystals, like triangles, are ubiquitous these days as visual shorthand for something vaguely mystical. When I first saw the freakishly long, beaded Ghostdancer earrings on a friend of mine, I was shocked to actually be looking at something undoubtedly inspired by Native American art that didn’t actually insult someone’s culture.
