With the Great Gatsby movie hitting theaters, there’s been a renewal of interest in the fashion of the 1920s. Suddenly there are a whole lot more dames sporting the iconic bob haircut, while even Brooks Brothers released a line of shirts meant to mimic Gatsby’s own fashion. A new haircut would cost maybe $50, a shirt perhaps $100, but how much would it cost to actually be J Gatsby?

According to this infographic by Nickolay Lamm, you can expect to pay about $34.3 million. And that’s with a pretty tight budget of $250,000 to actually throw his monumental parties. Now I understand why all Gatsby’s friends were suspicious of his fortune.

Clearly for film (and TV) buffs, London-based designer Michael Hobson has created a wicked timeline infographic by pooling together tumultuous events in the future based on happenings in the collective movie universe. Trivia: according to I Am Legend, this is the year ‘zombies take over the world’. And in year 2001988, according to Red Dwarf, ‘the last living human wakes from cryogenic freezing, proceeds to eat Pot Noodles and play guitar’. Glad to know there’s hope for us humans.

Tracing the evolution of the geek, this infographic by US-based startup Freetown shows the lineage of the original ‘gecken’ (a term used in the 1500s as an insult labeling someone as a foolish tool) and how the term has branched out to encompass the mutant sub-variants of the geeks we now know, like the otaku geek, the Star Wars geek, and the tech geek. Gets a bit out of hand with all the unwieldy arrows, but, still, respect for enlightening all modern geeks on their rich ancestry.
