Like what you see? Go ahead, just download it for free. I love this new trend of free download for product designs. Now, even cool electronics have entered the realm of DIY arts and crafts. If you have access to a laser cutter and some extra materials lying around, then you can make this. And you can customize it with whatever fabrics you decide to recycle for it.

This great little stool is a genius blend of gorgeous, minimalist design and function. When you order this rocking stool, it comes with simple instructions to help you assemble it in no time. But here’s the ace up their sleeve: you don’t just order a pre-cut, mass-produced chair from some factory in another country. No way, that’s not an option for the quality conscious guys at Fabsie.

Basically, this customizable design file will be sent to a manufacturer near you and the stool will be built in your town. Check out their Kickstarter before it’s too late.

An article in a Dutch Newspaper stating that the use of electronic gadgets alone is responsible for the forthcoming creation of an extra 30 power plants in the very near future, made Michiel van der Kley decide to do something extra as a designer. Having designed furniture for 20 years, he wanted to design things that not only look cool but might be meaningful as well. The Wheeler is an attempt to bring together energy and activity. When you exercise for half an hour, you produce enough energy to power your device: you work on your health, you do not use any fossil fuel while doing it, and on top of it all, you are independent. Bam!

Admittedly, most of my reading is done electronically now either via the Kindle for books and the iPad for magazines, but nothing beats a physical book collection for turning a house into a home (or a house into a library, in my case). After seeing the Bibliochaise on a UK book show where it was given away as a prize for the guest authors, I had to have one. Only the best of the best makes it into the book chair, which stores about 300 of my favourite books.

Imagine the earth abandoned by humans, blanketed in rubbish and white ashes, where insects are the only living species left. This is what my dreams are made of, unnerving visions of how we use and abuse nature in a way that is detrimental to humanity. My Creatures and Conflict conceptual art and furniture expresses this in a dramatic way, nature entangled and conflicted and fighting for survival, a kind of dream-like poetry in motion.

Michael Perry from Walk the Plank has returned home with a fresh container load of furniture that will form the centerpiece of an exclusive show at Sydney’s China Heights Gallery. Titled Casually Approaching Shore, Perry’s debut collection has been inspired by the concept of casual furniture, which he has transformed into classic handcrafted pieces for everyday use.

While living in Central Java, Perry has stayed true to this environmentally ethical ethos. He works exclusively with reclaimed and responsibly sourced materials like un-seaworthy fishing vessels found along the coast of the Java Sea. These pieces are shaped, refined and crafted into pieces that have their own personality with their own story to tell.

If you’re in Sydney this weekend, head down to China Heights Gallery on Friday 2nd of September from 5pm for opening night. We’ll save you a sundowner.

New ‘green’ designers and true artisans create using discarded materials with that in mind, paying attention to details and putting extra care into quality standards. ‘Shabby chic’ is not an option, almost a cop-out, really. Stil Novo Design doesn’t care for the ‘shabby’ part at all, and it shows.

The day I win lotto is the day I completely furnish my home with everything Kyle Bunting has designed. For almost a decade, the flamboyant designer’s psychedelic work has redefined the purpose of cowhide application to interior design. Tasteful floor rugs, furniture panels and wall coverings are meticulously prettied up with vibrant hide colours, mosaic textures and wood finishes for that ultra-modern air of festive fun. The possibilities are truly endless.

The problem with firearms is that they work much better on the living than they do on the undead, since a breathing human will go down if you hit him anywhere in the torso — you have a much smaller target area on a zombie. This anti-zombie night table is a much better bet — you won’t run out of bullets, it won’t jam, and it’s much easier to make your effort count when you’re whacking skulls with a blunt object.
