Imagine the earth abandoned by humans, blanketed in rubbish and white ashes, where insects are the only living species left. This is what my dreams are made of, unnerving visions of how we use and abuse nature in a way that is detrimental to humanity. My Creatures and Conflict conceptual art and furniture expresses this in a dramatic way, nature entangled and conflicted and fighting for survival, a kind of dream-like poetry in motion. Read more

A more appropriate name for this shiny sparkling piece of illuminating design would probably be an Aviator Lamp, because that’s what this is: a light bulb surrounded by forty pairs of mirrored aviator sun glasses, which cast a kaleidoscope of shadows when the lamp is lit. This Celebrity Lamp may lack subtlety, but it makes up for it with countless opportunities to check yourself out.

I’ve always wanted a bear in my house, so this limited edition bear bookshelf is perfect for folk like me to store our belongings when space is at a premium. For $2,000, however, I believe I could buy more vodka to fill my wardrobe compared to this unbearable price tag.

The day I win lotto is the day I completely furnish my home with everything Kyle Bunting has designed. For almost a decade, the flamboyant designer’s psychedelic work has redefined the purpose of cowhide application to interior design. Tasteful floor rugs, furniture panels and wall coverings are meticulously prettied up with vibrant hide colours, mosaic textures and wood finishes for that ultra-modern air of festive fun. The possibilities are truly endless. Read more

Peter J Pless’ Tryst stool, which seats two people face to face, reminds me of that old Saturday Night Live skit with the love toilet.

The problem with firearms is that they work much better on the living than they do on the undead, since a breathing human will go down if you hit him anywhere in the torso — you have a much smaller target area on a zombie. This anti-zombie night table is a much better bet — you won’t run out of bullets, it won’t jam, and it’s much easier to make your effort count when you’re whacking skulls with a blunt object.

Oh man, it’s a good thing I’m not living in Tokyo as I’d probably never leave the house. Japanese TV is the best. Want proof? Check out this clip from a prank show called Wake You Up where hapless victims are woken from their slumber in the most … ummm … ruthless of ways.
As a child, gold mining towns were exemplified in my mind by boring theme parks populated by out of work actors in naff colonial costumes. My parents used to drag us along in our overheated datsun because they couldn’t afford to take the kids to Disneyland. As often happens, I now appreciate the destinations whose mentions used to prompt a whole lot of whingeing about seatbelt buckle burns and compensation payouts of McDonalds. Walhalla is one such beauty. Set in the misty foothills of Australia’s Baw Baw ranges, it was once a gold era boom-town, but is now home to less than 20 residents (not counting the ghosts). Read more

Man, I remember shaking my tail to Come on Eileen many moons ago — when rat-tails were a right of passage and Molly Ringwald held both the lock and the key to my tiny pitter pattering heart.
