Many years ago I used to DJ with a guy who wore a Double Goose at gigs. He nearly caught on fire twice from errant cigarette butts, came close to starting fights because he kept on nudging into people cos it was so big, spilt drinks everywhere, and at the end of the night, he had lost about three stone because he was sweating so much from wearing it in a hot club. Saying all that, they do look the business.

Who cares about collecting art when you can wear it? Cool Swedish fashion label Acne has teamed up with East London artist Daniel Silver to create a covetable African-inspired collaboration. The capsule collection includes painted leather, native African textures and a lot of print. Particularly amazing are the tri-colour dresses and dip-dyed jackets.

Talk about eco-friendly jewelry! A bonsai on your cocktail ring? Sure. Twigs around your neck? Perfect. She does it with such care, restraint and attention to the ‘chic level’, though, that I’d be delighted to wear one right away and water it after taking it off tonight.

Hamburger skirts, tank tops in the shape of turquoise elephants, and a pink cupcake tutu bustier? No, I’m not on an acid trip and watching cartoons. I’m describing the work of the most exciting and colorful new label out there: New York Couture. While their range may seem the stuff Harajuku girls and ravers dream of, it’s certainly got me mesmerized, wishing I was coordinated enough to pull off one of these pieces.

Surrounded by the enchanting air of a secluded island, Louisa Richwhite’s childhood initiated her passions for all things nocturnal and mystical. In later years, her childhood would become the muse for the evolution of her alter-ego, Violet Darkling, the maker of magical little wonders to adorn your wardrobe with a certain cryptic-chic panache.

Her first collection merges luxury and ethereal, each piece telling a ghost story or fairytale in a most elegant and witty way. I could not help but envision myself wrapped in a dark cashmere wrap, settling in for the night as the wind bustles outside, listening to the crackling fire next to me while drinking a glass of dry champagne accompanied with blackberries a good mystery book. And, of course, a Violet Darkling ring on my hand to perfectly set the tone.

British fashion designers Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen are known the world over for their theatrics on the catwalk, but such displays of artistic fashion are unconventional for Mexico. So when designer Mauro Babún unveiled his Morgana Fall 2010 line at DFashion week with all the eerie pomp and circumstance of a McQueen show, the audience gleaned the pasarela melodrama.

Inspired by the baroque architecture of the Zacatecas cathedral, a towered and tiered church with an elaborate facade, the muted rose and beige undertones of the clothing echoed the stone of the church, as did the florid details in dresses and blousons. The female silhouettes looked straight from Westwood’s mid-90’s Anglomania. Babún meant for the collection to be structured but with the sense of decomposition like bloodied history of the church. Gulp.

Off stage, three female wailers murmured over a violin concierto, filling the catwalk with shrieks and shrills. It was surreal and hair-raising. Babún received a standing ovation. What else is one to do after such a daring display of couture? The show, as it turns out, was a dedication to the life of McQueen. Long live that sort of drama in Mexican fashion!

Keep it simple stupid. That’s the idea behind this design. Fashion label Eleventh Commandment wanted to created something that was as far away from the Ed Hardy ‘cram as much shit onto one shirt’ approach as possible. Voila. This singlet is 100 percent premium 150gsm combed cotton and is made in Australia.

These delicate sterling silver earrings have two hand hammered layers of silver with a soft white finish. In the center of each earring is a small peach moonstone. These earrings hang flatteringly close to the face on small sterling silver ear wires. Each earring measures 0.75 inches in diameter.

The scientists explored the surface of our moon until they stood facing the foreboding presence of The Lunar Crystal. The two men stood in awe of the crystal’s existence. They stared without tact; oblivious to the inquisitive voices on the other end of their earpieces.

An attempt at picking up the crystal seemed insulting to what resembled a divine being worthy of idol-worship. The first man removed his gloves, unaffected by the Moon’s elements, and reached for the crystal. The skin of his fingertips made contact with the light emanating from the Crystal. He felt as if he had received a gift for his blind bravery. A fundamental lesson of life was bestowed upon him.

Each piece features an image from an anonymous Polaroid that has been found by happenstance. Although these scarves come with a hefty price tag, you can rest assured that shaking it in one of these, won’t damage the image!
