Many years ago I used to DJ with a guy who wore a Double Goose at gigs. He nearly caught on fire twice from errant cigarette butts, came close to starting fights because he kept on nudging into people cos it was so big, spilt drinks everywhere, and at the end of the night, he had lost about three stone because he was sweating so much from wearing it in a hot club. Talk about eco-friendly jewelry! A bonsai on your cocktail ring? Sure. Twigs around your neck? Perfect. She does it with such care, restraint and attention to the ‘chic level’, though, that I’d be delighted to wear one right away and water it after taking it off tonight.

Hamburger skirts, tank tops in the shape of turquoise elephants, and a pink cupcake tutu bustier? No, I’m not on an acid trip and watching cartoons. I’m describing the work of the most exciting and colorful new label out there: New York Couture. While their range may seem the stuff Harajuku girls and ravers dream of, it’s certainly got me mesmerized, wishing I was coordinated enough to pull off one of these pieces.

Surrounded by the enchanting air of a secluded island, Louisa Richwhite’s childhood initiated her passions for all things nocturnal and mystical. In later years, her childhood would become the muse for the evolution of her alter-ego, Violet Darkling, the maker of magical little wonders to adorn your wardrobe with a certain cryptic-chic panache. British fashion designers Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen are known the world over for their theatrics on the catwalk, but such displays of artistic fashion are unconventional for Mexico. So when designer Mauro Babún unveiled his Morgana Fall 2010 line at DFashion week with all the eerie pomp and circumstance of a McQueen show, the audience gleaned the pasarela melodrama. Read more

Keep it simple stupid. That’s the idea behind this design. Fashion label Eleventh Commandment wanted to created something that was as far away from the Ed Hardy ‘cram as much shit onto one shirt’ approach as possible. Voila. This singlet is 100 percent premium 150gsm combed cotton and is made in Australia.

New York-based, Australian art director Deanne Cheuk — an occasional contributor to Lost At E Minor — is one of the most adventurous and creative designers around. Her work on Tokion magazine, in particular, for which she shaped the visual direction over several years, was inspiring, pushing the boundaries by incorporating illustration, offbeat color touches and avoiding the straight portrait shots which seem to dominate the front window of every inner-city newsagency.
The newest design in bike fashion, as seen on the streets of Saarbrücken, leaves no wishes open for those who like a colorful appearance while being on the way on two wheels. Is it practical? Probably not. But it’s funny all the same. Read more
How many times can we play the same song in different settings? Hmmm, I don’t know. But it is a hell of a song, from a hell of a band, as that uniquely English oddity, Jules Holland would no doubt concur.
When I first moved to London and didn’t know a soul, I joined up with the British Film Institute [BFI] and started going to the talks they put on. When I went to see Gene Wilder speak, all the know-alls in the audience kept asking questions, not to find out anything, but just to show off to the room how much they knew about film making. He got annoyed. Genius boy genius.
The work on the Buero NY website is amazing — it’s my art direction obsession! So much work, so many cool clients … what a fantasy.
Killola is three boys and one girl, making rock music out of Los Angeles, California. The band’s style of garage pop (often described as ‘Blondie for the 21st Century’) has received more than 1.5 million MySpace plays from over 80,000 friends, many of whom add the band’s ‘K))’ symbol to their screen names as a show of allegiance. The band recently self-booked its own UK tour — 12 shows in 12 days — and American Tour — 27 shows in 32 days. Oh, and their latest album is available for free download. Viva la independence!

Méduse is a self-initiated project that I started while studying in London. I was printing a jellyfish inspired series of t-shirts and bags which I was selling or giving to friends. The concept has evolved a bit since then. I try to find time to launch two series’ a year, available only online.
