Kapil Bhagat created a whole series of these fantastic minimalist scientist posters for India’s National Science Day. Less is more, especially when it comes to poster design. But the key to keeping a minimalist poster from being boring is creating a little joke or pun.

The “aha!” moment is when people fall in love with the design and Bhagat has created one of those moments for each poster. Copernicus circumnavigated the globe, so the C in his name goes around the rest of the name. Get it? See if you can catch all the other nerdy science jokes.

The Bit Hotel in Barcelona looks like a huge mob of children were let loose in its halls with colored pencils. These lovely little wall illustrations were created by Dopludό Collective. They feel so whimsical and friendly. But don’t stop and stare at the little scribbles for too long or you’ll notice that they’re actually dismembered pieces of the human body. And that isn’t quite so comforting.

Sergey Safonov from Moscow has in a short time managed to make quite a name for himself in the toy design world. He won great praise for Moon Fox and other characters from his Moon Wanderer series. Safonov explains that, as a child, he often wondered what happened at night while people slept, and so he created these characters who only exist at night and follow the moonlight.

These freakishly beautiful and realistic David Bowie Dolls are the work of New York-based author and skier E.V. Svetova. Featured on the DeviantArt site (under the name Katyok), Svetova doesn’t make the 70cm high polyurethane resin dolls themselves but customises them with paint and Yamamoto-like style. Sadly, they’re not for sale, instead they are ‘created by me for my own enjoyment as a humble tribute to the artist I admire. Unless you are David Bowie, I cannot make a custom Bowie doll for you’.

Alan Taylor, that guy that ‘kinda fell into fashion’, is raising the bar with his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. Designing for the stronger, arrogant (without being an asshole) personalities amongst us, his collection was based around this year’s muse, Toby Ziegel. The London based designer carried on with his play on classic menswear by revamping the old-man’s-pub-print and taking it to the fourth-dimension.

The theory behind fourth dimension is that we would theoretically see every single side of an object simultaneously. In other words, through his meshing of garments, jackets seem to naturally grow from the back of other jackets, trousers are layered with flattened shorts and jacket vents.

Taylor’s mathematically inclined mind makes more sense of this than I ever could; he does admit to gravitatating toward the opportunity of “f*cking with people’s minds” afterall. Whether you get Taylor’s 4D concept or not, we can all agree it’s worked a dream for his AW2013.

Richard Saja is an accomplished textile designer whose work involves embroidering quirky, brightly coloured patterns on old traditional French toile. Saja transforms historic, rather bland, 18th century figures by embellishing them with Maori face tattoos and clown outfits. One might even find a mohawked Victorian lady dressed as punk-rocker. His original, one-off creations, have landed him partnerships to create designs for some of the biggest retailers in the fashion world: Opening Ceremony and Bloomingdales, among them. His designs feature reguarly on his blog, Historically Inaccurate.

The Paris-based Elemotions design studio is pretty small, but his 100 percent artisan products tend to activate big emotions. And hence his name. Its ever-evolving table e-Sputnik emerges as a clean crystal surface landing on three wooden legs, all departing from a solid spherical ball. Nothing else, nothing more. Very limited editions of the product have been produced and sold during the last two years, each one of them unique and with slight alterations from the previous one. Actually, Antonio Morales, the architect behind the firm, keeps on evolving its design, now exploring a completely foldable wood version of his most well-known table, which should be ready for Spring 2013.

Gardens, full of mystery and an intangible magic. The centre piece of the gardens in Haifa is The Shrine of The Bab. This is the most beautiful building I’ve ever seen. It has a strange quality to it, as if it has life, or a presence. I’ve never experienced that from an inanimate object before. But like the Taj Mahal in India, it was a building project invested with such a huge amount of love and designs for the ultimate expression of beauty that it now shimmers with these qualities.
