The Irregular Polygon rug is designed by Michelle Weinberg. It is hand-tufted of wool and silk, measures roughly 7′ x 7′, and is manufactured by Odabashian. The design of Irregular Polygon is inspired by Weinberg’s painting PreFab2, and it appears to shift shape when viewed from varied vantage points.

The rug, in turn, inspired an installation at Dorsch Gallery in Miami in May 2012, titled Splinters and Polygon Projections. Which subsequently inspired a collaboration with dance/theater artist Octavio Campos – you can see where this is going.

Rug fabricator Jaime Odabashian makes a cameo appearance in the short video, which also can be seen here. Irregular Polygon is one of several limited edition rugs that extend this painter’s vision beyond her studio and out into the world onto surfaces for interiors and architecture. Vivid backdrops for human activity.

Unless you live under a rock, you probably know that colours have meanings and evoke certain emotions. It makes sense, right? Though it seems to be common sense, let’s take a moment to review what your colour choices are actually saying. When it comes to branding and logo design, colour psychology is essential. What do you want people to feel when they see your design? According to Media Novak, here are some basic color associations:

Red evokes aggressiveness, passion, strength and vitality
Pink evokes femininity, innocence, softness and health.
Orange evokes fun, cheeriness and warm exuberance.
Yellow evokes positivity, sunshine and cowardice.
Green evokes tranquility, health and freshness.
Blue evokes authority, dignity, security and faithfulness.
Purple evokes sophistication, spirituality, costliness, royalty and mystery.
Brown evokes utility, earthiness, woodsy-ness and subtle richness.
Gray evokes somberness, authority, practicality and a corporate mentality.
Black evokes seriousness, distinctiveness, boldness and being classic.

Most kids like crayons, pens, wrapping paper, cartoons and those shiny things that go on the end of shoe laces. Who am I kidding? Kids like colourful stuff that makes their face happy. This beautifully designed colour tester is a game for kids trapped in bigger bodies. It starts easy.
