I watched the Danielson family documentary the other night, which juxatposed the rise and rise of ethereal and devastatingly unpolished part-time bandmate Sufjan Stevens against the backdrop of these Christian rockers’ theatrical surrealism. In comparison to the gentle and unforced beauty of Stevens’ music, Danielson’s tunes — and overtly preachy stage show — all seemed a little too much. Though this track, Headz in the Cloudz, is a killer. Someone should really sample that drum beat and sell it to Daft Punk.
Matt Walford is an editorial and commercial photographer from the UK. He works by using a modified flatbed-scanner to digitally capture things, then incorporates this with digital photography to create his surreal imagery. Read more
Jelle Martens combines three things I love in his In the Quivering Forest series: nature, geometric shapes, and fabulous retro colors. His perfectly balanced compositions weave together photographs and blocks of color in a refreshingly unique way.
Comedy troupe Summer of Tears edited itself into the classic ’80s movie Teen Wolf, starring Michael J. Fox, providing a new and gut-bustingly hilarious side-plot.
Who says the Swedes have got a monopoly on seasonal ice hotels? This one in Kemi, northern Finland, is the world’s largest snow castle, standing seventeen metres high and with walls that are 1,100 metres long. It has restaurants, an art gallery, a hotel and a chapel. In fact, since opening in the early 1990s, it’s been quite a hit for tourists to get married at the snow chapel. Law-abiding citizens by day, voracious visual junkies by night, the3some is a trio of superheroes who go all out to slug it out with the monotony manifesting their lives. The3some seeks collaborations with like-minded people and together, they strive to bust boredom. As you are reading this, the relentless battle continues.
Music isn’t necessarily a serious venture. It’s almost funny when you find some you know will grate to dust the stiff upper lipped critics of the world. Every now and then I like the type of sound that hops around the edge of your ears without working its way into your brain and messing up the seratonin levels. And Californian 16-piece tropical-ska-pop group, Still Flyin’, do just that for me. It’s a good laugh, quite catchy, and an awesome live experience so I’m told: especially with the sun out, a can of cider in your hand and a bunch of grinning faces skanking around you.

Love it or loathe it, you’ve got to admit that the ruffled blouses and strict pencil skirts on television series Gossip Girl give you a guilt-free reason to watch. 25-year-old former model Abigail Lorick was approached to ghost design the Eleanor Waldorf Collection by using her budding real life label Loricklady. The press surrounding the show has boosted her profile and her new collection featuring all the Upper East Side trimmings is greatly anticipated.
