Some pretty cool-looking birdhouse ‘cities’ have sprouted up in the London boroughs of Chelsea and Islington as part of the Secret Garden Project by UP Projects, an organization that organizes public art projects. The aim of Spontaneous City in the Tree of Heaven is to promote biodiversity in urban green spaces. Read more

The ArtNet website has an interesting write-up on experimental art duo, The Black Estate, a ‘collaboration between artists Noah MacDonald and Scott Pagano; the artists do not sign their individual names to the work, they are interested in the collaborative art-making process and the ongoing nature of their particular dialogue. The Black Estate presents a body of hauntingly beautiful and surreal video works’. Read more
Street artist Ekta, who is currently based in Gothenburg, Sweden, has a pretty distinctive style consisting of huge fields of colors, often not separated by outlines, making for elusive and mysterious, yet distinctly figurative forms. Read more
Artist Julia Tepasse lives in Hamburg, Germany, and studies graphic-design at Kunstschule ALSTERDAMM. She is interested in abstract, post-modern and minimalist art, with a particular interest in street art. She is also the founder of the A is for ART blog. Read more

TIME magazine’s annual Person of the Year issue is coming out this week. I illustrated one of the runner-ups, but of course, I have to keep my mouth completely shut. I don’t know who is the winner though. On TIME’s website, you can see all the past covers of this most talked about issue of each year. It’s a good time to look back history and learn from it anyway, don’t you think?
Stylistically The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is hard to pin down, except to say that they throw one hell of a party – which may be why those music-loving folks at Apple chose them to help sell what’s being touted as ‘the funnest iPod ever’. Sun-drenched pop melodies collide with Technicolor dreams, anchored by the band’s shared love of the classic soul stylings of Marvin, Stevie and Sly that can be heard in the horns snaking through Around The Bend, as well as the slinky The Sun Ain’t Shining No More [below], the Thomas Gold remix of which we have available for free download in the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor [psst, it's in the third column], along with a stack of other cool tunes. Get those iPods ‘a thumpin’!

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.

It’s refreshing to see artists like Joe Kievitt who are contented to explore the beauty in simple forms and asymmetrical patterns. Read more
Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada.
