I love these charcoal drawings by Australian artist, Louisa Jenkinson. Of this work, she says, ‘Through the medium of large scale drawing, my work investigates the interstices of the urban environment where one finds a cornucopia of brief human interactions, prolonged dramatic interpersonal relationship sagas and momentary lapses of normality. These prolific and profound moments are then deconstructed, rebuilt and then released into the wild’. She is represented by Dianne Tanzer Gallery in Melbourne. Read more

When I was on tour, everyone was in the habit of using the word ‘sick’ as a superlative as in ‘Dude, that band was sick, I can’t wait to hear their record.’ Sick can refer to anything you deem amazing beyond comprehension. Take Laurie Lipton’s pencil and charcoal drawings for example — with a dark, gothic sensibility, the London-based New Yorker creates cynical images that often deal with political, social, religious, and macabre themes. Every time I see her work I can just imagine my bandmates saying “Siiiiiiiick” in unison. Read more
The Brick Testament is an illustrated version of the King James Bible done with Legos. Though the site is meant to be satirical, it’s a pretty good summary of the Good Book.

UK-based one-man-band Sieben has a new album out: As They Should Sound. Frontman Matt Howden builds songs with a loop pedal and a violin, which he uses for rhythm and melody. His sound is wonderfully sophisticated and cabalistic, with a particularly British sense of lyricism.
