We asked New York-based photographer Gregg Delman about the differences between shooting for print and online: ‘With online publications, the layouts are very specific. You need to shoot and crop to fit a specific box on the web page. With print, you have a bit more freedom. Editors are willing to layout there text around your images as long as its within reason. Also, there is a lot less time given for online shoots. All the MTV.com shoots have been done in a 9 x 10 foot office space with fifteen minutes max’. Picture meets name, and they all live happily ever after in Sam Taylor-Wood’s piece, Escape Artist. Her simplicity is her genius. She was the mastermind behind Elton John’s video with Robert Downey Jr, singing of wanting Love, and she was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to make a video of David Beckham sleeping. If I were to investigate the essence of ‘viewers delight’, it would be defined as ‘up-grading to simplicity’. Sam Taylor Wood’s work relishes in this idea.

In a very serendipitous moment the other day, I walked into the cafe, Picnic, the latest arrival in my Fort Greene, Brooklyn neighborhood. Not only do they serve some of the best coffee I have ever tasted, but the store is a virtual paean to Brooklyn illustrator Claudia Pearson. I can’t wait to snap up her Tribal Alphabet book. A lot of people have asked us where the name Lost At E Minor comes from and what the phrase implies. Well, several years ago I came across a compilation of obscure electro music called Famous When Dead, which is off the commendably experimental German label, Playhouse. While appealing mostly to the stoner-rock and indie-metal set, the quintet from Athens, Georgia, aren’t afraid of a little melody, as the almost pop track Motown on their latest album, Life … the Best Game in Town, proves. But more often than not, the band gets down and dirty with some knuckle-dragging sludge rock. Amid the haze of searing guitar squeals, menacing power chords, and seismic bass rumbling, though, are some almost math-rock flourishes that hint at the brains behind the brawn.
