This video is of the artist, HUSH, building up and tearing apart layer upon layer of paint and paper as he creates this spectacular installation for his recent solo exhibition Hymn to Beauty at the Carmichael Gallery.

Brooklyn-based stencil artist Chris Stain has transformed LA’s Carmichael Gallery into a New York City rooftop scene, complete with pigeon coop for his first West Coast solo exhibition — Up On The Roof Countin’ Pigeons — featuring his gritty, enigmatic stencil portraits integrated into the large-scale installation, which offers a unique perspective on contemporary inner city life. The show runs until February 26.

Witnessed From Afar is a showcase of artwork by Andrew Pommier, Irina Troitskaya, Karen Preston, Ken Garduno, Mel Kadel, Michael Hsiung, and Parskid: ‘evoking forgotten pains and philosophical yearnings, the artists contemplate the oddities of life and death with warmth and sincerity; yet always maintain their distance’. The exhibition opens at West Hollywood’s Carmichael Gallery on April 26th.

Ken Garduno creates wonderfully humorous illustrations using acrylic, ink, and wash. He is part of a group exhibition at West Hollywood’s Carmichael Gallery called Witnessed From Afar which opens on April 26. Garduno’s pieces are ‘generally composed in black and white, occasionally infused with vivid backgrounds of yellow or pink or his signature hint of orange and green’. ‘His technique is confident and firm — his simple, definitive line strokes convey the feeling of a strong hand watching over its fragile subjects. Peppering his work with a private, cheeky humor, Garduno pens mournful sophisticates, brooding musicians, and be-speckled intellectuals with a slick, satirical beauty all his own’.

Space 1026 artist Ben Woodward has an exhibition of new works — called Beep-boop beep-Boop — showing at the Carmichael Gallery in West Hollywood between March 8 and 30. Woodward’s trademark colourful half-human, half-animal imagery is a take on the primeval instincts that govern many of our day to day decisions and actions.
