I am inspired by the idea of art clashing with what surrounds it, rather than complimenting it. An expression of the opposite of the safe, pretty paintings adorning the walls in suburban homes. I am also inspired by being surrounded by skate, punk and street culture in my teen years. I sometimes bring in freeform variations on tribal and South American patterns into my pieces, on varying scales of devolution.
FOR CREATIVE INSPIRATION
In partnership with our friends at Optus, we present the third in a three part Lost At E Minor video series that puts the spotlight on some young, handpicked Australian creatives, doing inspirational things within their chosen fields. Episode Three features 16-year old Melbourne-based producer, Gab Strum (aka Japanese Wallpaper), who has racked up thousands of plays over the past year or so via a number of well-blogged remixes ranging from City Calm Down and The Townhouses to bootlegs of The xx and Bon Iver.
