Exactly one year ago at the Cannes Film Festival, we saw a 29 minute video of a young director named Carleton Ranney. We immediately liked his aesthetic, and his talent and potential was so obvious that we made a point to track him down. One year later, he has already directed two of our most recent videoclips — Made For You and RGB [watch below] — from our new release, Explode. Finally available on Vimeo, here it is the first short cut by Carleton Ranney, called Slasher.

Superbly written, acted and, most notably, shot, this deserved winner of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or will be fodder for film students for years to come. Set in a small country town on the eve of the First World War, the story revolves around unexplained and seemingly random acts of cruelty. What is really on show however, is the brilliance of director and writer Michael Haneke.
