Canadian artist Sarah Anne Johnson created these works after a residency on a double masted schooner in the Arctic Circle. The artist says: ‘After such an experience, one can’t help speculating about the impact we have on this planet’.

Maskull Lasserre is a Canadian artist who sculpts anatomical forms into everyday objects, such as teeth in a wooden frame or a human spine into an axe handle. The effects are both humourous and macabre, which happen to be two of my favourite effects.

I found this excellent David Bowie doll in the general store at The Drake Hotel in Toronto (which is also one of my favourite places to play at) and I had to grab it. I subsequently found out that it is one of many created by Canadian artist Suzie Smith and she’s created a whole lot of other great stuff in various media which you can see at her site. I particularly like the folded hands and the interactive comic.

For Canadian artist Todd McLellan’s Disassembly project, he deconstructed everyday gadgets, such as old telephones, cameras or typewriters, and arranged their parts in an orderly manner.

Holy hot damn, Canadian artist Winnie Truong makes incredible, large-scale drawings with pencil crayons.

I write about a lot of various artists who work in all sorts of media and styles, but at the end of the day, super intricate, gothy stuff like the work of Austrian-born, Canada-based artist Otto Rapp is what really gives me an art boner.

Like a latter day Keith Haring, Canadian artist Luke Ramsey fills walls, public spaces, various objects, and pieces of paper with impossibly intricate and busy drawings that reveal more detail the longer one looks. There’s more spacial depth in his work than the iconic 80s artist, and rather than redefining the surfaces he works on, Ramsey creates little narratives with awesomely weird characters and landscapes.

Ramsey, along with his wife, also operates the Islands Fold Art Farm on Pender Island, B.C. He’s currently showing some work at the Harmonic Huh show at the Hexagon in Baltimore, also featuring work by LA’s Sarah Anderson and Charlottesville’s Andy Jenkins.

Canadian artist Tristram Lansdowne does amazing watercolors of abandoned, graffiti-covered buildings as a sort of halfway point between traditional craft and contemporary urban culture.

Canadian artist Brandon Jan Blommeart’s trash monsters lumber across beautiful landscapes, happily playing with each other as if they had inherited the earth from their human creators.
