John Atkinson is a cartoonist from Ottawa, Canada, who draws smart, humorous cartoons for his website, Wrong Hands. He started it up in 2011 and has been sharing puns in drawing form ever since. The story behind the title is funny too; he uses his right hand to control the mouse to create his drawings while, in fact, he is left handed. A worthwhile website for procrastination.

My new EP, The Sudden Stop, was released worldwide on February 14. I use songs to tell myself things I need to hear. As a kind of therapy, I guess. I see two versions of myself with different characteristics. These two guys are at it most of the time, constantly arguing. I kind of write songs so I can hear the words come back to me like anybody else would.

Now nature is pretty decent on its own, but try spending three days in the Canadian Mountains alongside a glacier fed river surrounded by cutting edge music and thousands of stoked out party goers! Although still in its infancy, Bass Coast continues to get better every year and has officially become The Party among the Canadian Bass music elite. Sure, I could go on and on about unicorns, naked people and next level party shenanigans, but I wouldn’t want to bore you. Instead, I’ll mention that it is a magical place that will change your life and is unlike anything else you have ever attended. What’s also neat is that the organizers are not men. Now as much as we’ll miss overflowing port-o-potties and wasp infested garbage piles, we feel quite comfortable with Bass Coasts’ womanly touch.

I was a little late to discover the awesomeness of Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth, but I’m sure glad I did. Hemsworth’s tracks combine complex and moody samples with some pretty big names in rap. The resulting ambient, sometimes psychedelic, sound has me mesmerised and wanting more.

Magpie is a custom fashion boutique tucked away in Toronto’s Queen West district. The styles are out there, yet comforting, like Prince himself. What’s nice is we can now die happily knowing that Prince is actually a real human being that shops for clothes like the rest of us. It’s good to know that the shirt you saw on Jimmy Kimmel Live was made in Toronto and didn’t travel through a Shakespearean alien time-vortex after all.

Jason has been one of my favorite photographers for some time now. I’ve always enjoyed how his images can feel both abstract and personal at the same time. His new show, I Heart Transylvania, which opened recently at San Francisco’s Little Big Man Gallery, is another great collection of photos. Caitlind Brown, an artist from Calgary, has put together 6,000 new and burnt out light bulbs to create a giant, interactive cloud. The project, which formed part of the Nuit Blanche arts festival, contained metal pull-strings which allowed viewers to turn the light bulbs on and off, creating a flickering sensation similar to that of a storm cloud. Now that’s putting waste to some really good use.

A free quarterly art fashion and culture publication now in its fourth year, SNAP! Magazine started out as a kind of cult object in the city where we live, Montreal. This fall we launched our 14th issue and with it marked a whole new phase in our business. We’ve taken our magazine nationwide and dramatically increased our distribution.

Although SNAP! Magazine is produced by a core team of just three, each issue we collaborate with a wide range of some of the best creative talent across the country. This issue we got to work with Caroline Mauxion, Karin Demeyer, John Londono, Clara Palardy, Jean Malek and many more, and used our ‘Double D’s’ theme to have a bit of fun.

Exploring everything from Doris Day to David Duchovny to Dirty Dancing and Donnie Darko, the issue is now all across Canada and we are getting so much great feedback.

For those who haven’t yet seen a copy, we also feature each issue online and work really hard to make a website that delivers smart, fresh and diverse content for our web audience. We are in the process of launching a newsletter for our growing network of fans, and to find new ways to promote the new talent we discover every day through our magazine.
