Travel to Bulgaria’s capital of Sofia and take in the glorious views of the stunning architecture this city has to offer. And then do a double take when you see the Snail House. Yes, a house that looks like a giant (and somewhat sad) snail.
This breathtaking scene was photographed on Rila Mountain in Bulgaria, capturing the essence of a cold winter drive through the snow-covered mountains. The freezing landscape glows blue as a lone car passes through an isolated road.
This is Earth, looking decidedly un-Earth-like. Travel photographer Timothy Allen’s Forget Your Past series has him shooing a huge snow storm off his back in Bulgaria to get these amazing desolate and pilgrimage-like images of the Buzludha Monument, an architectural relic of the country’s communist past designed by architect Guéorguy Stoilov. It looks like an abandoned spaceship.
Along with the greening of brown sites, this has to be one of the answers for a more eco future. To take a large piece of land, to maintain the bulk of it as it is naturally, and then to design a highly dense yet attractive living environment.
