It’s been suggested that the lure that ultimately roped John Lennon into Yoko Ono’s spell was the word ‘Yes’ written in tiny writing on the roof of her gallery exhibit. ‘Yes!’ It’s such a positive word, so packed with meaning, as this notice on a pole in an arty block in Brooklyn attests.

The Sketchbook Project collects thousands of artists’ sketchbooks from across the globe and exhibits them in cities all over the world. The crew just posted a sneak peek at some of the finished sketchbooks that have just arrived at Project HQ in Brooklyn.

For my money (some day, when I have some), you can’t get a cooler hoodie than you’ll find at Head Hoods. I first stumbled across their work when I was out photographing street art in the East Village.

I kept seeing these great pasters, which I naturally stopped and photographed and shared online, which led to my being contacted by the guys at Head Hoods, who introduced themselves as the masterminds of these great prints and the owners of this home grown company. Based in Brooklyn, they produce an engaging line of prints: from celeb heads, such as Marilyn Monroe and Johnny Cash, to toys, such as sock monkeys and lego heads.

They’ve also done some great mash-ups of their prints, such as those I came across in the East Village. So cover your head in style and know that you’re also helping out some great guys who are out there doing what they love.

The Makers is a photo project started by photographer Jennifer Causey. Interested in all the handmade and artisan products being made in Brooklyn, Causey began documenting them. Each photo series and interview celebrates a handcrafted product, from fragrances to chocolate, and gives a behind-the-scenes look at the craftsmen at work.

Based in Brooklyn, DDIILLIIAANN likes traditional ways of structuring songs as much as deconstructing them. Live shows tend to be fun, including great collaborators on different sound making devices and mathematical equations.

It’s hip to be a nerd, at least in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, home of the awesome Twenty Sided Store. Focusing on board games, Magic: the Gathering, and RPGs, the store hosts gaming nights sure to make your geek toes curl.

What will they stink of next? A chain of supermarkets in Brooklyn and Staten Island have began a radical experiment to pump the aromas of Lindt Chocolate and Smoky Bacon, among other flavours, into the air as a way to encourage mouth buds to start watering. I originally caught wind of these photos on amazing artist/designer Scott Hansen’s blog. These photos, taken by Danny Lyon in Brooklyn in 1974, have such a gritty, yet nostalgic feel to them. Brooklyn-based photographer CM’s interest in fishnet is being explored in a new series of nudes. The sexy series pairs the delicate netting of a fisherman’s cast net with a curvy female form in water. It begs the question: just how did fishnet evolve from a tool of necessity into a tool of seduction?

Having lived in Brooklyn for nearly five years now, I’ve seen some truly bizarre body art. But this one really is the pits.

Brooklyn Brine is a labor of love with a simple mission: damn fine pickles. Indeed. Mouth-watering seasonal delights are created with the aid of local, organic produce, carefully chosen spices, and spot on recipes. Take, for instance, their Hot Heirloom Cucumbers, made from a variety of diverse cucumbers mingled with seasonings like dill and chili peppers. There is also a Curried Squash, Minted Eggplant, and the necessary, NYC Deli Style Cucumbers, to name of a few. With Brooklyn Brine now on the scene, you can safely stow away whatever notion of soggy, mass-produced tasteless pickles you had and go for something worth biting into.

Who said hipster tattoos had to be ironic? When you’re sporting a Debbie Harry or a Edie Sedgwick portrait on your arm or leg, you’re practically screaming out your allegiances to the rest of the world — or Brooklyn’s Bedford Avenue, whichever is deemed more important. I’m just surprised a Webster tattoo didn’t get a gig in this awesome collection compiled by our friends at Flavorpill. But I guess he’s just way too 1980s.
