In a very serendipitous moment the other day, I walked into the cafe, Picnic, the latest arrival in my Fort Greene, Brooklyn neighborhood. Not only do they serve some of the best coffee I have ever tasted, but the store is a virtual paean to Brooklyn illustrator Claudia Pearson. I can’t wait to snap up her Tribal Alphabet book. Who would’ve thought chewy jello could be so practical? This Chandelier — one of only ten made — was built from around 5,000 hand-strung acrylic Gummi Bears and took two months to complete. Shame is, it’ll take just three hours to eat.
GeekStiff4U is offering some pretty nifty, hand-crafted, skull-shaped USB flash drives that can be worn as rings. The $156 price-tag may ward off non-geeks, but that’s the point. This item is only for people really committed to transferring data in style.

My Kid Is Gifted is a site where people share hilarious and gifted kid stories and sayings. It’s aditcive and nearly impossible to not crack a smile at the adorableness of it all.
There’s no shortage of bands channeling the surf rock and psych of the 1960s, but the Super Vacations’ sloppy vocals, drunken guitar riffs, and blown out production give them a knowing swagger that has as much in common with Beat Happening and Thee Headcoats as with the Pyramids. They seem to take pride in how bad they are live, but their debut record shows a lot of potential.
