What is it about 1980s videos? I mean, seriously, it’s like every director from that period swallowed a big bowl of feelgood cheese [with extra Gruyere on top] and got deeper and deeper into that saccharine sweet, naive world of day-glo kitsch. But, damn, I kinda wish the film clips of today were even half as creative. On a side note, my next haircut will be like Nik Kershaw’s, circa 1984? Oh boy! That mop needs a zip code all of its own. MakerBot just unveiled their new 3D printer model with a bigger print surface and the ability to print two colors at the same time. At $2,000 it’s not quite in everyones price range but if you’ve got the cabbage, how awesome would it be to have this new toy on your desktop?

Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. Wireless microphones hooked up to the mall’s PA system ensured the feeding masses didn’t slip into Cinnabon-induced comas until after the show was over. Note especially the angry dude in sunglasses at about 2:51 — apparently he thinks nothing can ever top Rent.
Architect Jean Nouvel is on a roll. His projects are popping up everywhere, but this may be the grandest. In choosing Nouvel’s design, the competition judges stressed that this ‘is the most important act of architecture since the Eiffel Tower’. Read more

I love Brooklyn band Durty Nanas. They were formed in 2005 and play street spaces, galleries, lofts, and block parties. So I guess they are the ‘real’ Bloc party.
