It’s time you were be able to judge a book by its cover (something that I wished worked for wine, too). A handful of MFA Illustration grads from the School of Visual Arts decided to form a somewhat atypical book club by combining their interests for art and reading. The idea is a simple one: Read a book. Design a cover for it.

WE'RE THINKING

The Australian film collective behind the sci-fi spoof, The Time That Time Forgot, perfectly capture the look and feel of awkward, low-budget rip-offs from the ’70s — the psychedelic lighting, bad dubbing, and amazing hair. WE'RE TRAVELLING TO

This striking design — still in the planning stages — aims to covert a desolate, disused sand mine into a thriving environmental preserve and eco-resort. The development lists an impressive array of green designs, including living walls and a five-acre green roof, and effortlessly succeeds in that all important eco-feature of blending in with its surrounding environment. WE'RE LISTENING TO

Anyone who thinks black metal is too rigid and narrow a genre to have room for innovation would do well to check out Lifelover, a Swedish band that defies every convention of black metal while still remaining miraculously kvlt. The sextet wafts between languid, hallucinatory grooves that channel Iggy Pop and latter-day Cure to unhinged freak-outs that sound as if they’re emanating from the deepest, coldest forests of Norway.

I know at least five or six people who could make you a Gizmo skirt for like $50 or a couple cases of beer. But if you really want to pay $2,100 to buy the one by Brian Lichtenberg, I won’t stop you … I’ll just spill water on you.
