For some, Banq resembles a cave, for others, the desert. But whatever the curvaceous layers of blond birch sweeping across the soaring ceilings at this Boston-based restaurant are reminiscent of, the uniqueness of its sleek and sexy design are indisputable. As an unrepentant meat-eater, I really love this poster by Alyson Thomas which portrays San Francisco as a pig where all the different districts and neighborhoods are various cuts of meat.
We’ve noticed an overwhelming number of hipster kids being photographed in need of the bathroom. The usual traits are legs crossed, feet turned in, desperation in the eye and holding on tight. I really, really love this blog. Renee Ruin covers art, fashion, trends, with an emphasis on tattoo, fetish and grunge culture and she digs up the most amazing stuff. Ruin seems to like the same artists I do, including the seriously talented Brian M. Viveros.
After getting lost in the quagmire that is the internet, M83’s Digital Shades, first released digitally in 2007, has just been given a space on the shelf in your nearest music shop. Before shooting to acclaim with Saturday=Youth, Anthony Gonzalez looked closer to Krautrock and Eno and produced this ambient sometimes beautiful record. There’s much less of a disco feel than both Saturdays and his first album, Before the Dawn Heals Us. Some might say it’s a bit self-indulgent, not easily accessible, and more of a soundscape than a pop attempt. Yet, like Eno, Gonzalez is slowly becoming a master of the perfect chord sequence, and the result is an interesting, often heart-wrenching, set of compositions.
