Her soothing cooing may sound all too familiar to some. While she once provided backing vocals for Bombay Bicycle Club’s track, Flaws, Lucy Rose has everything it takes to make it as a indie folk artiste. A hauntingly beautiful voice and a pretty face, how can one ask for more?

Having just released their third album in three years to more critical acclaim, Bombay Bicycle Club are just finishing up their first tour of Canada and the US. Their first album, I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose, is definitely in my top 10, and their second, the acoustic Flaws, probably wouldn’t be far behind.

Flashguns are a killer British trio who just survived a break-up following the recent departure of keyboard player, Oliver Wright. I’m delighted the guys chose to run strong as a three-piece and recorded some acoustic sessions on the road while supporting Bombay Bicycle Club’s UK tour. Before you watch Samuel Johnston’s interesting van acoustic version of their single, I Don’t Not Love You, I suggest you listen to the studio version and Lagos Boys Choir remix [below] to get a feel for the track’s full glory.

For anyone who didn’t see the disgraceful incident at Davis, watch on, then you’ll appreciate the searing irony of these images on the awesome Pepper Spraying Cop tumblr. ‘Little did we know that Pepper Spraying Cop has cracked down on so many famous moments in history!’ Indeed. Read more

Stewy does a range of stencils of indigenous British animals and the odd musical characters in and around a specific area of North London. I’ve seen his work develop from black and white to multiple colour and small to large scale. It started with cats and dogs, and he recently did a full-scale horse. I love walking around town and seeing a great page in a magazine without paying for it. Read more

This café, cookie shop, ice cream place in Cobble Hill Brooklyn is all about flavor, aroma and family. Their cookies and ice cream are absolutely to-die-for, and the place is so well-designed, painted in vintage colors with old family pictures printed on the walls, that you’ll want to indulge yourself for more than just a few minutes. Try their Whoopies and Lucia cookies. They’re my favourite.

This has to be one of the best design websites going around. The greatest part of the website is how you can filter design by colour. Mix and match a couple of colours and BANG! It will show you all the designs that utilize them.

Don’t be afraid of the word retro. It has haunted us all from time to time, but one group that has embraced it with open arms is UK duo, La Roux. Their music is synth pop in the vein of Calvin Harris, Human League, The Eurythmics, and The Knife. There are quite a few of these young and ambitious pop starlets on the scene including Goldielocks. But La Roux takes the cake. Literally. I’m obsessed with their song In For the Kill and have a feeling summer will take it and make it a hit.

For an industry that spends so much time fratenising with musicians, few designers ever admit to being primarily influenced by the music industry itself. Electronic Poet are an exception. Read more
