I checked out the prestigious Berlinale the other day, which is the moniker for the Berlin Film Festival. Besides being an awesome festival, filled with A-listers — Madonna and Scarlett Johanson, amongst others — I had the chance to see P.T. Anderson’s new film, There Will Be Blood, starring the genius actor, Daniel Day Lewis. The soundtrack has been written, scored and performed by Radiohead’s guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, Jonny Greenwood. It’s truly amazing, based on a previous soundtrack he composed called Bodysnatcher. This one is full of avant-garde and Space Odyssey 2001 moments, atmospheric and richly textured. In my teenage years, I was a fanatical collector of Archie Comics, living my life vicariously through the mischevious misadventures of Archie, Betty, Veronica and the gang. Eventually I sold my collection to a high school friend, who bought several garbage bags worth of digests along with my prized Ozi skate deck. This vibrant artwork by Singapore-based designer Hanyi Lee takes me back to that time and I kinda wish that I’d kept the damn things, if only for a few more moments of saccharine sweet escapism within their apple pie, primary colour world.

Skagen are a Danish-born design company based out of Nevada with an innovative and clean approach to their work. Their trademark product is this titanium mesh watch, which I’ve worn with pride for years. But they also produce different models of sunglasses and jewellery. When so many products these days offer extra gimmicks and weigh you down by their size, Skagen strip it all back and, in doing so, hoist themselves far above the pack.
Some might argue that the team behind People of Walmart are elitist snobs poking fun at the working masses, but is there really an economic rationale behind an ‘I Hate Queers’ t-shirt? Read more
