I accidentally stumbled across a Crappy blog, which comes with Crappy pictures. The blog and sketches are written and drawn by mother and wife, Amber Dusick. She illustrates parenting stories that draw on her experience of child tantrums, doctor’s visits and general daily family life. It’s honest, brilliantly bad (she swears) and quite touching. Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures is out now, if you fancy taking a look at the Crappy book.

Any parent would empathise with this: seemingly endless moments when their baby is crying, with a seemingly endless list of causes for the unhappiness. Part-time radio executive Greg Pembroke, a dad from Rochester, New York, basically accepted that his 20-month-old son Charlie was just going to have his frequent meltdowns and set up a hilarious blog with pictures of Charlie crying, accompanied by an explanation as to why. These are frequently hilarious, ranging from the off-tangent (‘I wouldn’t let him eat mud’) to the incomprehensible (‘He’s in the largest toy store on the planet’).

Really liking the new weekly STUFF series by New York-based art blog Art F City, which illuminates artists through their stuff instead of their art. As they state, ‘Art history never elucidates the importance of the artist’s dual role as creator and person who owns STUFF, even though STUFF is important: it’s what accumulates when you make decisions.’

The series began in March with Paul Chan and his art collective Badlands Unlimited parading their stuff, like their gold star Costco member card and wooden iPad (‘When our other iPads are out of power we use this one. It’s the one device that always works’).

If you’re a fan of great songwriting and intimate performances, then the London-based Mahogany blog is your new Shangri La. What began as a side project in 2009 for creator Mark Murdoch has now evolved into one of the most prolific music blogs around, with more than 270 videos so far online and a staff of nearly 10 continuously contributing to the channel.

The mission statement is as simple as it is convincing: ‘delivering great music to your eyes and ears, as often as possible’.

‘We have filmed many highly established acts so far, but our main concern is the music. We feature acts that we would want to be watching online ourselves and that seems to chime with our followers,” explains Murdoch. And we agree. So far, there isn’t one video that isn’t amazing: whether it’s established artists such as Fink and Bahamas or complete newcomers, it’s all good. It’s great to totally trust a blog and know that you will always enjoy what you are about to see.

I started Indisposable Concept as a bit of a rebellion to the throwaway culture surrounding digital imagery, and as a way to encourage people to acknowledge and embrace the everyday beauty that exists in their lives, to capture and share the stuff that matters and makes it unique. We ask participants to document their life using one roll of film from one disposable camera over a week, and then we feature the shots on our site and via our social channels.

Most of us have been lucky enough to experience the last bastion of analogue photography before digital cameras and smartphones took over. Those born from 2000 onwards will never know the dizzy highs of a well-composed image and the crushing lows of non-deliberate oversaturation.

Recently, I got turned onto Granola Glamour, a lifestyle blog created and written by Raquel Griffin, a fashion stylist and former fashion editor, yogi and healer. Griffin explores concepts of self-awareness, wellness and modern values-based style. The blog has become my sort of eco-chic altar where I go to pray to all my natural home remedies, beauty tips, and chakra goddesses. The blog is a guide that takes a modern yet cool approach to all things holistic, healthy and spiritually enlightening. It’s church!

Sloane and Greg, the two Americans behind the Sad Stuff on the Streets blog, want you to know they are not sad people. They are just normal, well-adjusted folks who went from being lovers, to ex-lovers, to friends, and somewhere along the way, they found a recurring theme in sharing pictures of sad stuff on streets with each other. As Greg puts it: “Finding a truly sad thing on the street is like discovering a small treasure. And so you want to share it with somebody.” There’s quite a lot of gems in there too, and the photo-blog welcomes contributions from anyone who wants to share that small treasure.

Yimmy runs a blog called Yimmy’s Yayo. I know nothing about him; I have no idea how old he is. But his blog is one of my favourites. I check it ten times a day just to see what he has posted. It usually consists of half-naked girls, old school rap photos, and out-of-date video games. But he doesn’t post writing or give his view on any of this. It’s just images and video. I use it as inspiration for my own creativity. It gets me through the everyday grind of a 9 to 5 job.
