At first glance, Thomas Barbey’s photos are awesome. But the fact that none of these shots have been photoshopped makes them mind-blowing.

When I saw his blog years ago, I was happy to find a young photographer that chooses to shoot with black and white film. And even more excited, when I found that he did it with a Leica, at the same moment I was studying about the Cartier-Bresson – Leica relationship. He says: ‘Knowing I have black-and-white film in my camera makes me shoot differently than I do with digital or color film’. Severin Koller defines himself as a street photographer, trying to honestly capture pieces of our time, to be part of the documentation of our human condition and the fascinating life on the street.

What’s kinda amazing about these photos which recently ran on the How To Be A Retronaut website is how similar the wives look to their hubbies. Must have been something in the water back then.

They say a magician is only as good as his wand. Well, a ventriloquist is only as good as his, or her, dummy. And in these cases, the dummies are quite probably the creepiest damn things we’ve seen in a long, long time.

I like the gritty, fly-on-the-wall photography on the Sticky Fingers Tumblr, which captures modern urban living, warts, cars and all.

We featured Bruce Osborn’s fascinating photo series, Oyako, a little while back on Lost At E Minor. Osborn lives in both Los Angeles and Tokyo, where he works as a commercial photographer and directs TV commercials and music videos. This shot is one of my favourites from this series that looks at the relationships between Japanese parents and their children, running the gamete of society ‘including Kabuki actors, punk musicians, policemen, Buddhist monks, and porno actresses’.

A founding father of blues and a very influential figure for bands as varied as Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, Leadbelly lived his life to the absolute fullest (including singing his way out of prison after apparently murdering someone!) A new book of photographs and pictures commemorates his life in meticulous detail.
