Every time I see Carine Brancowitz’s work I wonder how on earth she managed to do them without getting smudges. These are all made by the simple ball point pen. I’m not the only one to be amazed: her biro illustrations have graced some of the world’s best known mags. I wish I hadn’t listened when my math teacher told me to stop drawing in the back of the book.
James Whitman is another cool artist that does the whole sparse, gestural thing really well. Using mainly pencils and ballpoint pens, Whitman takes images from nature and abstracts them just enough to make the viewer wonder what exactly he or she is looking at.
